Less than 2% of HAM radio operators use APRS for position reporting, the
other 98% use MILE MARKS when they are traveling. We MUST be compatible
and PROFICIENT with this.

Although APRSdos has always had Milemarks built in, I have posted the raw
data file and the Basic code for displaying them in hopes that other
authors will implement it in their code. They are welcome to use my
files and can display them on ANY map system. See the MILEMARK links on my
web page:
http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/aprs/errata.html
Note, the format of the MM-DATA.DAT file is now DIFFERENT than it was
before. This new file format is much simpler and is simply a list of
milemarks and their LAT/LONGS. My code shows how to plot every Nth one
for clarity on any map.. The file you will download is MM-DATA.TXT
which has the .TXT extension to make it compatible with your browser
but I use it in my code as MM-DATA.DAT.
You will notice that I cleaned up all the states leading to Dayton,
because that is where it is REALLY convenient to have MILE-MARKS in
your APRS program so you can track all the other mobiles traveling
with you on this annual epic journey.
Would someone in Kentucky confirm that all these parkways still have no
interstate numbers? I was using a 1995 map:
Columbia Parkway
Daniel Boon Parkway
GR Parkway
Kentucky Parkway
Coon Mountain Parakway
Blue Grass Parkway

It is very useful and one of the best uses of the IS there is, imho.
However, at the same time, it is important to adjust the paths so this data
does not get too far out there...keeping it local, iow. Some software, like
UI-View is very limited in how an Igate can choose a path for specific
objects or stations, therefore one is sort of stuck with limiting
paths....sigh!

Subject: Charlottsville Va PL-100 Digi?

ARGH,
There is a home station or digipeater near Richmond VA that is using PL
100. I could copy it for over 50 miles in the vicinity of RIchmond VA as
I drove along I-95. It was just weak enough so that I never could tell
who it was.
My suspicion is that it is actually in Charlottsville Va or along the
Blueridge which is why it was so weak... It not only did a periodic
packet, but others as well, which lead me to believe it was not a mobile
parked on a mountain...

APRS stations are on the air? (how many stations do you regularly see
within one hop of your station)
8) Of the stations in your area, what flavor(s) of APRS are being used
(please include an approximate percentage or actual numbers by flavor)
9) Do you or a club you are a member of sponsor an APRS digipeater? If

(note "area" does NOT mean a geographical area)
18) In what area(s) do you feel that APRS is strongest?
(note "area" does NOT mean a geographical area)
19) What websites have you used to learn more about APRS in the past?
20) What excites you about APRS?
21) What bores you about APRS?
22) Within the calendar year 2003 have you attended any hamfests? If so,
how many? Was APRS a featured part of any of these events?

You want to have loaded EMAPSnn.ZIP which you can get from TAPR.ORG in
the dosstuff/APRSdos directory. Get the latest. when you PKUNZIP -DN
it, it should put everything in the right places. Then in APRSdos, use
the MAPS-CONFIG-CHANGE to EAS and then you can zoom into WV and
see more detail...
Also, the latest APRSdos is APRS862.zip. ALso use PKUNZIP -DN when you
install it in your APRS directory.
