So far I've dropped my cellphone in the toilet (don't ask), and run my
hearing aids and TV remote thru the wash. So far everything has worked ok
after drying out.

I use and recommed the Weller WESD51. It's around $xxx. Didn't care much
for the chisel tip that came with it, but the local store stocks fine tips.
Haven't found anything else new in that price range that matches it for
quality. Though the fact that it's configured (temp units and lock feature)
through a stupid magnetic wand is kind of annoying. The automatic idle
shutdown is great for absent-minded types like me.

After anything electronics of mine takes a bath in water, I always give it
a bath in rubbing alcohol to displace the water. I then blow out the
alcohol with my air compressor and let the device sit open to completely
dry.
I have done this with a cell phone, a mobile radio mike etc...
All are still working.
Also, many keyboards around my house have gone through this after having a
coke spilled on them.
They get washed in the bath tub with soap and water, then rinsed with
water, then alcohol.
They even look better afterwards!
Good luck.

While we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a rosin flux remover?
I've got this GC Tech aerosol stuff but it seems like you've got to use a
ton to avoid leaving residue. I've got no-clean solder, but it stinks,
doesn't wet as well as rosin, and still leaves a visible residue.
I've got a growing pile of assembled OpenTrackers here that need
de-fluxing...

Hello Scott and Group,
CLEANING FLUX OFF BOARDS:
I use denatured Alcohol and a cheep throw away 1/2" paint brush. I use a
pair of tin snips to cut the bristles to about 3/4 of an inch long. I wrap
the metal part of the paint brush with electrical tape to prevent any
accidental scratches. (I also use this brush to clean the crud out of
groves before opening an HT for repair.)
ALWAYS TEST A NEW CONTAINER OF DENATURED ALCOHOL ON PLASTIC TO MAKE SURE
IT DOES NOT CONTAIN ACETONE!!!!
I Once bought a gallon can at the local hardware and found out the hard
way it contained a small amount of Acetone. After noticing the clear
plastic on the caps turning white I went back and read the label. That was
the only time I ever encountered it but just the same I check first now,
every time!
GETTING THE WET OUT:
The only way I do it is first I wash the disassembled item with HOT water
and plain old Ivory dish soap, with NO HAND LOTION! I keep a bottle next to
the wash tub in the pit. To get into the hard to reach spots I use another
paint brush with full bristles. Again the tape is around the brush. This
brush hangs over the faucet on a wire to dry. I rinse the equipment with
distilled water or Alcohol or sometimes both. This works great on TV remote
controls. I must have done hundreds of them for the guys at work. (Ford R&E
Center, Dearborn)
I blow out the water with low pressure, dried, compressed air. Compressor
is mounted below the bench. If I am not able to completely disassemble the
item, I then bake the moisture out. Electric oven set on the lowest setting
with the door open about 6". Yes you should test your oven first by setting
it up with a thermometer. I like 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit.
I tell people to remove all batteries, rinse with warm clean water and put
the electronics in a plastic bag and get it to me ASAP. If the contaminates
in the original water dry they usually leave deposits that are hard if not
impossible to remove.
Years ago, 30 to be exact, I used to work for Halliburton Services. I
repaired TV cameras and associated equipment used for underground pipe
inspection. I remember when the first Sony 1" tape recorder came out and we
started to use them. Job paid $4.04 an hour. These cameras were inside a
3" diameter 18" long SS pipe. the front had a 1/4" quartz glass. When a
user would drag this camera through the sewer pipes they would hit
obstructions and shatter the quartz. You would not believe what the inside
would look like full of kitchen grease and human waste. Yes, it was a S**ty
job! Rubber gloves to the arm pit, full face shield, hot soapy water,
alcohol, and a bake. Clean the contacts (gold) replace the lens, wipe off
the vidicon and calibrate, good as new. These cameras cost $5000 and up
back then.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!

I have had problems with midwest.aprs2.net over the last 48-72 hours or so.
When I connect, I do not get any data back but the telnet connection stays.
I use the same port # and filter on this server as I do with socal,
indiana, and arizona and have no problems with them.
Is the owner on this list, or can someone get word to him?

You have an EPROM error, in your soft reset. Do a hard reset on your TNC
and see if that clears the message. Also, try sending other commands to the
TNC. A good one is RESTORE D which will try to revert back to factory
settings. That will force a AUTOBAUD routine. If the error doesn't go
away... punt. The EPROM lost some it's program data. The EPROM is chip U10
on your board.
