I keep seeing this on 144.39:
aprs: fm N6ZV-8 to ST5UPP via RELAY WIDE3-3 ctl UI pid=F0(Text) len 9
0000 `05dl .k/
aprs: fm N6ZV-8 to ST5UPP via K6SYV-10* WIDE3-3 ctl UI pid=F0(Text) len 9
0000 `05dl .k/
aprs: fm N6ZV-8 to ST5UPP via KD6DSI-5* WIDE3-3 ctl UI pid=F0(Text) len 9
0000 `05dl .k/
aprs: fm N6ZV-8 to ST5UPP via K6SYV-10* WIDE3-2 ctl UI pid=F0(Text) len 9
0000 `05dl .k/
aprs: fm N6ZV-8 to ST5UPP via KD6DSI-5* WIDE3-2 ctl UI pid=F0(Text) len 9
0000 `05dl .k/
As I read it, that's a failure both in digipeater fratricide and dupe
checking. Now, I'm guessing that if both digis are picking up the RELAY
alias, that would account for the lack of dupe checking in the first hop.
But why the immediate dupe after that?
This particular station is also beaconing RELAY, WIDE3-3 once a minute while
parked, which isn't helping anything - I'll drop him a note in email later.

Hello everyone,
I added functionality to aprsworld.net to make hourly archives of weather and
position data available in plain text (tab delimited vertical format).
Visit http://archive.aprsworld.net/ to access the archive.
It's only been running for a day, but I intend for this to be a long term
permanent archive. In the past I received requests for long historical data,
and I'm usually not able to fulfill them because the database has long since
been purged of that data. By taking hourly snapshots the data becomes a
manageable size that it can be stored permanently.
Here is a brief description:
--------
aprsworld.net Plain-text Data Archive
Here you can find plain-text data from the aprsworld.net system. We currently
have hourly snapshots of position and weather data. In the future we hope to
provide a daily capture of all un-parsed APRS packets. This is archive data
only. If you would like the most current data you should access the database
directly. Please e-mail kb0thn@aprsworld.net for more details.
Data is provide in a gzip compressed format. Your web browser will probably
automatically decompress it into plain-text when you click on the link. No
attempt has been made at post-processing this data or verify its correctness.
There are simply automated dumps of the database. The units are the same as
what is in the database, metric.
These data are distributed in the hope that they will be useful, but WITHOUT
ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS
FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
--------
I'm also looking for some people who would like to maintain an off-site mirror
of this data. Currently it works out to about 6 megabytes per day for hourly
position and weather snapshots - that about 2.2 gigabytes per year. The
mirror would not need to have the data be web-accessable, but they will need
to be able to maintain it long term and and retrieve it if there is a
catastrophic failure of the main archive.
Open to any suggestions,
-Jim KB0THN

Hi All
As many of you probably already know a Kenwood TM- D700E has been added to
the Amateur Radio equipment aboard the ISS.
I wonder if "TNC APRS" will ever be on the radio's display.
Let us hope we never witness the "Silence Of The Hams"

There is not a 'disk' yet, but I understand there soon will be...

If he is local he probably could just drop RELAY and use WIDE only. The 2
digis hear him direct. Is there an Igate near him in a single hop from
those digis? When he travels outside his local area of coverage, he
probably could get by with a longer path. Parking at one minute intervals
is a little over-kill. TNC or radio to ignition switch might help.
TinyTrackers work good when stopped... can be programmed to an hour or so,
parked, if he has a good GPS lock.

What turns on the indication that a particular station is an IGATE? Is it
a position report from an IGATE, or something else?
Thanks,
Earl

Yeah, he's near an IGATE - he's about 3 miles from mine. I got ahold of him
though, and he's getting ready to leave on a cross-country trip tomorrow.
His regular tracker has died, so he's using an old TinyTrak 1 for now, hence
the lack of smartbeaconing.
I'm still concerned about how the digis around here are behaving... seems to
me that they bounce a lot more traffic around than they should. Might be
another case of having the timing set wrong to avoid fratricide, but it
still seems like a lot of dupes.

There's no dupe checking on the RELAY. And there's no dupe checking between
the WIDEn-N and any other part of the path (the RELAY here). The only dupe
checking is "within" the WIDEn-N portion of the digipath.
Or at least that's my best understanding of the situation.

Sounds reasonable. I still don't understand why Kantronics wouldn't bother
to record hashes for ALL packets.
So that still leaves the issue of nonfunctioning fratricide. These digis
seem to have a sizeable overlap, but I still hear both of them without
collisions. They're all supposed to have a digipeating delay of 0, right?
