Finally got it running (diagnostic)
Can anyone recommend a Program I can burn into my Pic-E to use with my
Kenwood TM251 and a garmin model 75.

I thought perhaps John Hansen's GPS-E-2 would be a good choice or is there
another good program to choose from ?

Thanks All

I'm trying to help a local user in Greater Boston. He is *very* close to a
digi/gate but his packets are not reaching the local RF network. He's
about 17 miles away from me and less than a mile from the digi/gate. I
have *never* seen his station on RF. His station is a WX station. Findu
lists his packet as:

N1FWV>NS1RA-1,WIDE3,qAS,ns1ra-2:@281233z4232.32N/07058.81W_068/000g000t049r
002p005P004b10107h00/wx rpt {UIV32N}

He is using UIView32. I have no experience with that. The local digi/gate
is NS1RA-1. He wants to use that as the first hop, then maybe a WIDE2-2.
Exactly *where* in the program should he enter that and exactly what format
(commas, spaces) should he use?

PS I'm assuming that APRSDos should be able to decode that packet.

He needs to go into SETUP> Station Setup> and use an Unproto Address of:

APRS,WIDE2-2

The default is a destination address of "APRS" and no digipeaters. If you
want to include digipeaters, then use commas as separators. E.g.
"APRS,RELAY,WIDE" will send your beacon to APRS via RELAY and WIDE.

He should also run in KISS mode, to let Ui-View control his TNC. That way
he can't possibly mess the TNC up <g>.

In Setup> Comms Setup> handshaking is NONE. Host mode is KISS.

If he doesn't understand what needs to be changed, he can hit F1 from any
pop-up and get answers.

He currently isn't operating in APRS mode. Setup> APRS Compatibility> make
sure the Unproto Address is APRS. If you enable the UI-View(32) extensions,
you will have features available that do not form part of the APRS
protocol. The recommendation is that you do NOT enable UI-View(32)
extensions, unless you are operating in a network where most other stations
are using UI-View(32), and where compatibility with the APRS protocol is
not important.

Forgot to mention. Roger Barker of Ui-View monitors his forum at Yahoo. He
answers ALL questions. I would highly recommend your friend to join the
Ui-View Group.

http://groups.yahoo.com and register for Ui-View. The forum is extremely
active and it usually takes less than an hour to get answers from Roger.

N1FWV has apparently entered NS1RA-1,WIDE3-3 for the UI-View "Setup,Station
Setup,Unproto address" where he earlier had set APRS,NS1RA-1,WIDE2-2
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?call=N1FWV
N1FWV should go back to a setting starting with the APRS "ToCALL".
Something like APRS,NS1RA-1,WIDE1-1 would probably be ideal.

Oh, and before Roger G4IDE will gladly answer questions about UI-View, he'll
want to know the answer to a couple of questions himself. They are, "Have
you read the HELP documentation within the program?" and "Why won't you use
KISS?" hi hi

As I recall, (from the deep recesses of what's left of my memory), you can't
do what you are trying to do. If the wall wart is plugged in, the voltage
will sag, and that was a prime beef of a lot of early 2AT owners...it seemed
soooo strange.

If I understand what you are describing correctly, you are seeing the
typical behavior for that system...you can't charge and operate at the same
time.
