You are connected to THIRD.APRS.NET port 14580 with the following filter

Not sure if your arguement for symbols is correct. The freeze warnings are
being seen on APRSWEST.NET. The following object is showing up on my feed:

And when I finger it Ui-View, this is what I get:

What I did on my balloon was hang the payload on a switch and hang the
batteries below the payload on another switch. This gave me four states:
1) Flying normally, (Both switches closed)
2) Hanging in a tree (Top switch closed, bottom one open)
3) hanging upside down (bottom switch closed, top one open)
4) Laying in a field (both switches open)..
It landed in water and died instantly... was only found by someone
stumbling on it and reading the label..

However, the fact that the Kenwoods & APRSdos also sends the useless "-"
between the callsign and the SSID uses up a waypoint character position. I
suspect that hams can tell the difference if the "-" isn't there. I
reported this to Bob B long ago.

Never did get a nice web page for folks to enter items and/or objects for a
.POS file database.
I think the first thing that's going to happen is building up a nice
transparent interface between some Wiki files (group editable webpages) and
the .pos files. Something like I did with the hot springs page only it has
to be automated and the resulting .pos file available both for use on the
web and downloading by users.

Another thought is that a global database of .pos file objects could be
created/modified from APRS object postings.
Somebody driving in the middle of Wyoming could stumble on a friendly,
open, repeater and then generate and transmit a simple object/item that
would add to the database. Later on folks could either query the database
by APRS or extract .POS files for specific regions or objects.
So much time - so many more projects.

Ok, I know someone's got a listing someplace of what GPS units have trouble
with altitudes greater than 64,000 feet, but I can't find it. Can someone
send me a link? Or at least tell me if the DigiTraveler works to at least
100,000 feet?

According to the specs of the Sony GXB2000 GPS chip datasheet (this is the
engine of the Digitraveler) they lay out the format of the NMEA data, which
specifies 4 digits for altitude, the largest being the 1000's digit.
Is this an NMEA limit, or just what the Sony chip sets? It would mean the
max altitude would be 9999 meters or about 32000 feet

I'm working on a 12v PC made with
http://www.axiontech.com/prdt.php?item=34633 's case. The motherboard is
an EDEN 500mhz ITX motherboard which boots off a compact flash card. This
will become a sound card TNC/ digined / aprsd igate.
That said, I've plugged my handy dandy west mountain radio watt hour meter
into this critter and have it running off my shack 12v supply. It draws
..6amp with no HDD attached (ie the compact flash adapter), and .9
amps when booting with a 3.5" HDD. Idle state is .7amp with the HDD. It
is important to note here that the 12v output of this supply is NOT
regulated. My bench supply puts out 14.2 v and the motherboard health page
shows 14.2, not 12v as I would have expected. This is worry some if you
plan to use this in a car with voltage spikes. Probably best if you want
to run this one in a car, you need to realize that any spikes from starting
the car will go straight to your HDD's. Run a 12v regulator if you are
smart. Since the unit draws max of one amp in my configuration, a simple
7812 would work with a heat sink - or one of those fancy 12v switch mode
regulators which looks like a large 7812. It also draws 100ma when off.
By the way, this makes a really slick MP3 player for your surround sound
system - it has svideo /TV out built right in.
