Ok,
With the 7805 mod, kind help from Kirk Mefford (KC2ELO)...I am trying to
install the TT3 inside the RS DigiT. I have brought the led's out on
top, put a switch to go back and fourth between "serial in" and "serial
out" and also a switch to turn off the gps when programing it. The
latter is the problem however, programming it. I have read in the
instructions and talked with 2 other people here locally that went
through all their computers and then some....and could not find a
computer that could handle "it's" TTL level. Finally both fellows found
one young man who's laptop could handle it.
Bottom line; is there something that could be done to the TT3 to make the
thing more accessable to more computers?
Thanks and 73,
Robert

Will a Kantronics KPC-2 work on APRS if I hook it up to computer running
one of the APRS programs. This would be a home station.

Sure will! It can't do some of the more interesting digi functions, but
connected to UI-View it's perfectly functional.

Here is an old note as to why single DIGI SSID's are preferred:

Bill, did you ever finish this?

Yes, we dont want EVERY repeater, onnly the ones that are used by THROUGH
travelers with great range... otherwise, there are 10,000 and that DOESNT
help, because thats the problem. Knowing which one is where the travlers
is is the problem...

Note the garmin GPS III+ displays the waypoints as LEFT justified 6
character max whereas the GPS V will display at least 7 if not 9 characters.
The GPS III+ cuts off the SSID number.

If the tnc can operate in KISS mode, Ui-View32 has it's own digi functions.
Takes a lot of guess work out of correct digi functions. Ui-View32 works
really cool in KISS... no guess work as it bypasses all tnc params in KISS
mode.

If it right justifies based on 6 characters, a one digit ssid makes little
difference.
KB7ZVA-1 would display as 7ZVA-1
WB4APR-1 would display as 4APR-1
KF2DOG-1 would display as 2DOG-1 (in simple math = 1DOG) <g>

That is why I had the kenwood feed the data RIGHT justified. It is
absolutely paramount that the SSID be retained, else someone's house and
his car and his digi would dance all over the GPS map... and you couldnt
tell the difference!

That is why I had the TH-D7 (G) upgrade have options for 7, 8 or 9.

No, only if the radio is not set up properly. If the GPS displays 6, then
you have to select 6 in the radio or you see what you are seeing...

Yes, no big deal, but since some people have 4 letter calls, the single
digit SSID lets their call show up fully.. that was my only point...

Altitude tip for old THD7's:
You may enter your altitude in the old THD7 by entering xxx} as the
leading 4 chars in your STATUS text.
Unfortunately XXX must be compressed using the base 91 character set
and -10000 subtracted from it and converted to Meters.. So the following
TABLE might be handy. Just scribble the ones you need most frequently
onto a piece of tape on the back of the radio...
