The multi-point protocol has a provision for a line object- although I
have never used it myself. Originally Bob B. had front icons such as
warm, cold, occuded etc. but they were never used and were replaced by
other meanings. UI-Paintbox could be used for making a line object with
a little tweeking by Andy.
Is there a source of Aussie Wx available as a stream? I am working
on Canadian Wx at the moment and my be able to internationalize some of
the NWS protocol things if I had a source.

Yes its in there. Select a starting point, and ending point and select
the AREA ICON which can draw a CIRCLE, A RECTANGLE, a TRIANGLE or A LINE.
In addition, it can draw two dotted lines eitehr side of the line to make
it into a width thingy...

Though, of course, some clients never implemented this because some
authors didnt think it was important for their users..

Tyson!

In UI-View, using UI-PaintBox, you can draw these area objects with ease!

I think it does it, Dale!
Take a look out west of Baja, in the ocean on your APRS map.

Sure like to see some Wx data for Canada on FireNet!!! We do have the
Metars, but thats about it.

Steve, None of the rest of your response below has anything to do with the
TOXIC CLOUD OBJECT which was the topic of your original post. I say the
TOXIC CLOUD OBJECT should be displayed consistently on every ones screen
as a MOVING object with a CSE and SPEED header showing it is moving and
that it is an OBJECT posted by someone and the owner of that object should
be able to see that he is still in control of it and that someone else has
not taken it over. (those are the fundamental attributes associated with
an OBJECT).

Nothing else you say below has anything to do with what we are talking
about..

>Here is a guy, probably a meterologist, who has to determine where a toxic

So what does this have to do with anything? If he doesnt want to see all
the other ICONS on the screen, then in APRSdos anyway, there is a simple
two keys to hit "JW". That means JUST WEATHER and then the only thing he
will see is ONLY the weather ICONs. If client software doesnt provide
this kind of human engineering to reduce clutter than I say it is
flawed...

>The point, once again, is not everyone is going to use APRS as you do,
>and software authors need to have the freedom to follow their own

Yes, as long as they present the fundamental information that is
associated with the objects along with it. Maybe everyone has lost sight
of what we are arguing for:

I am saying that all ICONS have attributes associated with them and that
displaying APRS symbology includes displaying these attributes and all
clients must display this fundamental subset of information or we don't
have a consistent, communications system that can be used across
platforms.

Steve says that Authors should be free to omit any of this information
and only display a dumb icon if they want because that's all his users
want.

Thats like saying we will communicate in ASCII, but authors ar free to
leave out letters of the alphabet that they find difficult to implement.

Andrew,

Why did you not post this in the UI-View Sig?

Posting this here is pretty much pointless. Some of your points/complaints
of what you ask are in the help files, btw.

Bob, this just proves you do not listen. I never once mentioned a toxic
cloud object, my point all along was to try to show the different ways APRS
is used by PEOPLE. Please go back and re-read my posts on this topic, and
if, after actually reading them, you have a comment, feel free to re-post.

During this evening's pass over central USA, I digipeated some packets via
Sapphire (KE6QMD). With the terminal illness of PCsat and while waiting
for the ARISS equipment to come alive, Sapphire is the only reliable AX.25
packet digipeater in space.

It is 10 dB harder to hear, because the downlink is on 437.100 +/-
DOppler, but the uplink on 145.945 using the digipeater callsign of KE6QMD
is comparable to PCsat. We will need some automated tracking stations to
insert the downlink into the global APRS network...
