Gday,

Ive been trying to get my TH-D7A working properly in Kiss mode ( well as
properly as it can !! ) . It works all ok in straight terminal mode, but
when I put it into kiss mode it has problems. It will go into TX ok, and
then start to send a frame. It will send the preliminary idling characters,
but no data. Then it returns to RX mode. I have tried using ui-view in kiss
mode ( terminal mode works ok ) .Ive also tried various other programs based
around the TF drivers TFPCX and other variants. All exibiting the same
problem. Do I have a fault specific to my radio ? . Is there a way to do a
hardware reset on the tnc within the Th-D7A ? Or maybe I need to have a full
handshaking RS232 cable in order for the kiss mode to ( sort of ) work
properly ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Regards .. Andrew VK5EX

I recently purchased a few of the Radio Shack Digi-Traveler units and
decided to connect one to my Kenwood D7 HT.

Seemed to work just fine.

I recently drove from Los Angeles to San Diego along route 15 and I
installed the GPS antenna in the rear window of the car and put a small
magmount antenna on the roof of the car for the D7.

Using findu.com I "Monitored" my trek using my Blackberry handheld. I was
getting very reliable updates for the most part, sometimes my AT&T
blackberry was out of range etc.

Here is my main question......why did my indicated speed on findu.com never
seem accurate?

I was getting speed indications about 10mph slower than I was actually
traveling for sure.

Any ideas? Is that a setting in the D7?

How recently, and which cgi were you using?

If it was more than week ago using find.cgi, or just about any other cgi
anytime, you weren't getting an indication of 10MPH slower, all the CGI
said would have been something like Speed 60". No units were mentioned, you
only assumed it was MPH.

Until a week ago, findU displayed everything in the native units used in
the on-the-air protocol. Wind speed is in MPH, but vehicle speed is in
knots, which result in numbers about 15% lower than MPH.

I've started adding the choice of units to the pages. So far find, wxpage,
and wx cgis have been updated, you can tell if the page is updated because
you will now see the units (mph, knots, or kph) displayed after the number.
There also is a teaser giving links to view the page in metric or nautical
units if the units are not specified (default is english).

33cm band is not a frequency that can be used throughout the US:

97.303

(g) In the 33 cm band:

(1) No amateur station shall transmit from within the States of Colorado
and Wyoming, bounded on the south by latitude 39° N, on the north by
latitude 42° N, on the east by longitude 105° W, and on the west by
longitude 108° W. This band is allocated on a secondary basis to the
amateur service subject to not causing harmful interference to, and not
receiving protection from any interference due to the operation of,
industrial, scientific and medical devices, automatic vehicle monitoring
systems or Government stations authorized in this band.

(2) No amateur station shall transmit from those portions of the States of
Texas and New Mexico bounded on the south by latitude 31° 41' N, on the
north by latitude 34° 30' N, on the east by longitude 104° 11' W, and on
the west by longitude 107° 30' W.

Greeting APRS Land;
I find that the concentration of 900 mhz ATV is fairly pocketed it
the US, and that the current build-out of 902-928 ham repeaters, has most
likely numerically surpassed 900 ATV installation by quite a large number,
and in fact it does not appear that either bother either.... The band is 26
mhz wide, we have plenty of frequency application slots for everyone in the
Bandplan. I would mention here that the 900 bandplan is rapidly changing in
many States ( most actually ) and that the ARRL bandplan for 900 is not the
last and final authority for most States.. Check with the local freq
coordinator for the current repeater bandplans.
While ATV takes big chunks for 1 ATV channel, the narrow freq
limited hardware nature of 900 commercial gear being converted, limits
their freq agility, and has created concentrations of RF at the very top
and bottom of the 902-928 band. We see more interference from cordless
phones and baby monitors, than ATV in most of the country.
We do not ( as amateurs) have primary status in this band, but we
do have the ability to just move if there is a problem, it is a big
band. I have been building at 902 ham since 1991, I have yet to run into
another technology (ATV etc.) ham user in my building and operating, that
created even a blip for either of us.

I do suspect that many ( if not all ) of the states would likely
ratify a single repeater pair for APRS if someone asks SOON, if that was
something of interest... otherwise there is plenty of places to put simplex
operations in the band....if desired.. I suspect the cost and requirements
of modifications would keep the masses away, not including range loss due
to much higher freq than 2m. While is a fun place to play with new
hardware, it has been proven many times over, 900 does not compare to 2m in
range, watt for watt, and while that may not matter to some, it does to
most of the rural area operators....

I live in a small coastal town in North Carolina. I am wanting to set up an
IGATE. I have everything in place but it will not connect to the server. I
am running WinAPRS ver. 2.7.2 with tiger maps. I need information on

Hey Robert-

I applaud your effort to push a band that I have been interested in for
years. As a matter of fact, N4YCI are the ones who rewrote the SERA band
plan which is why you are seeing all the interest in the last 2 years. Many
states have begun using our 25 MHz split between TX and RX. This may be
interesting to try, but your frequency choice may need tweaking.

The reason we chose 25 MHz was because 902 was close to the TX frequency
range of the commercial Ramobiles and 927 was close to the RX frequency
range of them. This allowed many mobiles to be converted just by hacking
the programming. Not tuning and ESPECIALLY no filter chages were
required. The way it was being done before was having activity around
916-919 and ALL radios required new filters and tuning. The 915 MHz filters
are now extremely hard to get and this just about stopped all 900
work. Now we see a new, revitalized interest in 900.

I just wanted to tell you guys why we are seeing growth in the band edges
and not in the center. And the short story is that although there are lots
of cheap radios available, lots of them are portables and all the mobiles
will require mods that are fairly complicated.

And I'd have to respectfully disagree about the range. Its nowhere near
that of 440, although from a good high site, with no hills in between, it
is OK. We'd have to have a lot more digis though.

It might be worthwhile to mention that audio deviation on 900------
