There are a number of servers available. First, WinAPRS must be
registered to provide a bidirectional connection. Second, try looking
at http://www.aprs-is.net/aprsservers.htm to chose which server to
connect to.
I recommend, to keep your system from having to "drink from the fire
hose", that you connect to a filtered or regional port on a javAPRSSrvr
server (second, third, fourth.aprs.net and all aprs2.net servers). All
of these support port 14580 as a filtered port and many have regional
ports (follow the link on aprsservers.htm to view their status pages).
Hope this helps.

Would anything like these be useful for 900mhz, or legal? I searched for "RF
MODEMS" and came up with these.
I know there are some trying 2.4ghz HSMM and these might be useful for those
too??

http://www.maxstreathe TH-D7E
(second revision) and the TH-D7E(G) [unconfirmed but I assume this one is
working too]. Not working are TH-D7A (all revisions), TH-D7A(G) and TH-D7E
(first revision).
They all recieve okay, but at tranmission the none working units only
transmit TX-Delay worth of flags and stop transmission before the first
data-byte is send. You can check this by changing the TX-Delay. I have
measured the output AFSK, it only contains HDLC flags.
>problem. Do I have a fault specific to my radio ? . Is there a way to do a
It is a "fault". I write it in quotations because nowhere in the manual is
said that it should work, Kenwood doesn't recognize it as fault, it is just
not supported. KISS doesn't occur in the command list at the end of the
manual either. It was a major issue for the European market however, that's
why it was made to work on the E versions (and DAMA support was added too,
that was another major issue here). With the E-version there is a small
addendum to the manual highlighting the changes:
- APRS can operate in 9600 baud (Menu 2-D is present on these).
This was needed to be able watch the DX-clusters that mainly operate at
9600 baud.
- KISS works now
Besides that these versions accept GPS positions with a higher precision.
Even the "working" versions are barely so:
- In 9k6 baud reception the 9k6 baud serial line can't keep up (9k6
synchronous data is faster than 9k6 asynchornous and the TH-D7 can't buffer
and can't switch to 19k2).
- In 1k2 baud reception works okay
- In 1k2 and 9k6 extreem care has to be taken when sending a KISS packet:
-- When transmission and reception happens simultaneously the TNC may hang up.
-- The TH-D7 can queue at most 2 packets, when throwing more packetshaking RS232 cable in order for the kiss mode to ( sort of ) work
>properly ?
The only way to get it working is to swap it for a TH-D7E (second revision)
or TH-D7E(G) and modify it back to a TH-D7A/TH-D7A(G) version (see:
www.mods.dk).
Kind regards,
Henk.
