A transistor and a 10K resistor from the Base to +5V will provide such a
signal on the collector...

Hi All,
Since Mac OS X is a BSD cousin, is it possible to compile the ax25
utilities to run on a Mac?

The ax25 utilities depend on the ax25 protocol stack which is, to the best
of my knowledge, a Linux-specific thing. Even if there's a BSD kernel patch
out there, they don't let you mess with the OS X kernel, do they?

The fault with this is, my GPS receiver was so slow in getting a good
fix after powering down, thus leaving the gps hot is far better for
instant "good data"...

Actually they do, the entire kernel, including all Apple enhancements, is
open source. Look under Darwin in the Apple developer section. I haven't
heard of anyone trying to compile in the ax-25 code, be a fun, if
difficult, port!

To SEE how I would convey the multidimensional APRS SYMBOL attributes if I
knew how to program in Windows and was also limited to a GUI with only
FIXED ICONS, see the map about 2/3ds of the way down on my APRS SPEC
Errata page dealing with SYMBOLS:
http://web.usna.navy.mil/~bruninga/aprs/symbols.html
Again, I am not saying that color is the best way, but it sure is simple
and effective and I would think trivial to program... No matter how it is
presented, these APRS attributes were designed to be graphically presented
to the end user IN REAL TIME and it is disappointing to me that most
programs ignore this fundamental aspect of the original APRS design.

Do the Mac's still use something akin to the Z8530 used in the original
Mac's serial I/O? If so, AX.25 in the kernel should be able to be
implemented to talk directly to a Baycom modem at 1200 baud - the Z8530
family implements synchronous as well as asynchronous serial I/O in
hardware. Hardware HDLC...

macs have not had built in serial ports for a couple years...you need to
use USB adapters, which appear as /dev devices.

Yeah I knew that.... It just didn't hit me until about 30 seconds after I
sent the message.
It's just one of those days I guess.

I just noticed that it seems findu.com doesn't follow the "conventions" for
dumb trackers. According to my client software (Xastir) a truck just
passed through town but according to findu it is a moving house. :-o
And aprsworld.net defaulted to a big dot.

Nebraska Stratospheric Amateur Radio (NSTAR) will have its last flight for
2003 on Sunday, 9 November, at 0830 CST (1430 UTC). Launch site will be at
my in-laws' on the west side of Omaha. See the website for a map.
Primary APRS will be on 144.34 MHz with a callsign of N9XTN-11 and will be
I-gated. Backup APRS will be on 144.39 MHz with callsign N9XTN-12. A
simplex repeater will be on 446.30 MHz.
Total flight time should be about 90 minutes. Landing is forecast to be
near Corning, IA. Max altitude should be around 55,000 ft.
There is a 20% chance of rain/snow forecasted for Sunday morning. I'll post
an update to these lists around 0630 CST Sunday if we do cancel.
See http://www.nstar.org for more details.
Can someone forward this to the AkSarBen club list? Thanks.

What is the newest old version of WinAPRS that will work with Precision

Use Version 2.5.1.
I still consider that the best version to use for WinAPRS. The later
versions require a new PM CD and then only give you a 2/3 screen of the
maps. Not sure when or if this problem will ever be fixed. Version 2.5.1
works great and it is the version I use for our local county DEM use.
