Checking some things on our club digi the other day, and I noticed that I
don't get a coverage circle for it when I select that option in WinAPRS.
What parameter is used for that? I need to make a trip to the tower pretty
soon anyway, and I want to get that set properly.
Also, I've seen that some use the two letter state identifier in the UIDIGI
command. What does this do? I've got the UIDIGI set to:
UIDIGI ON RELAY,WIDE,TRACE,SGATE (I might add that there are so few digis
where I'm at that the LAN stuff I've seen discussed doesn't apply here.)
Comments, recommendations?

i'm look out for some information regarding using Kalman Filter for
estimation of a harmonic process (as harmonics in power systems). if any
one can help me with reqd. theoretical and practical details of such an
implementation.

That is a DX spot from a DX cluster. Apparently, the location being put
out may be a "default" if the actual location is not known. It would be
better if it didn't send a lat/lon at all or maybe 0/0 so the location
would be ignored by most software.

I agree. What he does is use a single position for each call prefix, and
place everything on that point. I asked F1NWC to reconsider his actions
(even got someone to translate the message for me), but when he failed to
respond, I decided to filter out all the DX spots he posts from findU,
which is why those people looking for these positions on findU didn't see
them!

Has anyone used the MFJ 1270b/TNC2 in KISS mode, say, with AGWPE? I want
to ask before I start making cables. Thanks!

I see it up now. Looks like the local APRSers are back up as well.

I work in a Motorola 2-way radio shop and on top of primarily working on
2-way radios, I have also been elected/suckered into being the shop's
computer/tech advisor. We also carry Nextel and with the recent explosion
of phones now including GPS, the "new" idea of tracking and locating has
been a popular topic amongst the cellular world.
I just love it when someone says to me "Wow, look at this 'new' technology,
I can't beleive they can track people." To which I prompty reply "Hams
have been doing this for years. In fact the 'new' technology is based on
what we have developed." Kinda takes the wind out of their sails :o)
Unless they are the typical ass that wants to argue how they were the first
to do it. Which we all know is bullsh** :o)
The main reason for this thread it to show you what is being offered as a
commercial service now. Take a look at www.ulocate.com Look familiar?
It's almost a complete copy of the findu.com interface, with a few pretty
graphics to jazz it up.
I was asked to check out these services for some companys that plan to use
it with the Nextel phones for tracking their service vehicals. I found it
interesting what is out there already for commercial use.
Just a little somthing to noodle.

I use several different MFJ1270's of various sub-types. I use KISS EPROMS
which are the way to go for my money. You snap on the EPROM, rip the
battery out, and forget about it.
I'd be happy to burn you EPROM's. That is assuming I can find the stupid
cable for my programmer.....

After the discussion you all had several weeks ago, I obtained a Yaesu
FT-1500. I would appreciate a little help in selecting a TNC to work in a
mobile configuration. I want to connect a GPS and a Palm PDA running
PocketAPRS at the same time . What TNC options do I have?
It looks like the PacComm PicoPacket dual port might work Any experience?
Thanks for your help - if you all have the time.

And then too, of course, the "dramatic demonstration" from
http://www.satsecurity.com/news103103.htm
SAN DIEGO - October 31, 2003 -- Satellite Security Systems (S3), a global
provider of asset security and logistics control, in cooperation with the
California Highway Patrol (CHP) and InterState Oil Company, dramatically
demonstrated the first wireless remote shutdown of a fully loaded moving
petrochemical tanker truck.
From S3's headquarters in San Diego - 530 miles from the demonstration
site - satellite communications were used to disable the truck in seconds,
proving S3's GlobalGuardT and FleetGuardT a viable solution to the challenge
of controlling rogue hazardous waste vehicles that could pose a threat to
homeland security.
The event, conducted on CHP Academy grounds in Sacramento and administered
by the CHP, addresses ongoing concerns about the affordability of effective
security technology, stealthiness of such a security device, and how GPS
monitoring can be incorporated safely into law enforcement protocol. <snip>
