Right, that's the one I was thinking of. I've got one of those on my roof
in fact, that I put up there for PCsat. The radial version, not the solid
groundplane. Works fine for normal IGATE use, too. One of these days I'm
going to have to come up with a mounting solution that involves less duct
tape, though. =]

And dont forget the sun is shining like the hottest July day above the
clouds, so if you dont want to get cold, you can make the payload as warm
as you want with a little thought. We put our system in a clear plastic
coke bottles (double layered) and it only got HOTTER as it went up.

But if you insulate, its only going to get colder... very cold...
just a thought.

Subject: How do I beam data bi-directionally, ie North to South and vise versa?

Greetings!
Looking for some input as to how to bring APRS signals from Maine and
sending them south into MAssachussetts and vise versa.
I have two Cushcraft Boomers with phasing harness. From my digis location,
the MA digi's can be heard w/a modest antenna, the ME digis are only
readable during Tropo Ducting.
Will two TNCs w/two radios be required?
Can the Boomers be pointed 180 degrees apart? ie one to N and one to
South?
Would the DCD lines have to be crossed between the TNC's to prevent TXing
to the digi's in the blind?
I was thinking of having one RX to the North, and TX to the South and the
other setup RX South and TX North with two separate callsigns and
criscrossed DCD lines.... what saz the group?

I've got one of those pencams too... bought it for rocket experiments.
Without the case and batteries, it's very small and light. Its optical
quality is poor, though. I've removed the buttons and the plan is to rig it
up for microcontroller control.

Well, I regret to say it, but it looks like within the next 6 months or so,
w0eee-3 will be going off the air.

I want to thank all those that answered my configuration questions, the guys
in Jeff City for helping out, The guys in St Louis for helping out by giving
the presentation down here when the scheduled speaker backed out at the last
minute... And the few alumni EEE has on the list who helped me out.

The main problem is going to be lack of interest by new club members in the
area of APRS and packet. If I can find one or two interested people, I will
leave my 9612+ and cables for the digi to remain online. If anyone has
noticed blackouts in this area for weekends or hours at a time (usually
overnight), this is a direct result of the lack of interest... People just
kill the power supply on me. EEE is also short on antennas in the shack,
so, if it dissappears around april/may, you all know why... Namely
graduation.

Hopefully wherever I end up for a career will someplace where I can put up a
digi and be useful there....

Looks like it has not yet come back. I'm joing to check on my little cabin
up near Lake Arrorhead Thursday morning. I'm told it made it through the
fire.

My place is available for a digi if needed. I'm on top of a mountain with
a clear shot to Lake Arrowhead/Blue Jay and San Bernardino.

It appears that the firefighters in the mountains pulled off a miracle.
There are thousands of dead pine trees near my place and all over the
mountain. We are very fortunate that the whole mountain did not go up in
flames.

There are a large number of stations all at exactly 39 degrees N and 77
degrees W.
Anyone know why?

I'm on seeing any in the db.aprsworld.net database. Perhaps it's your client
software? What software and version are you running?

I'm happy to report that N6EX-2 (near Crestline, CA) is back on the
air. It came back briefly very early Tuesday morning, but didn't stay
on. I suspect Edison was busy restoring power to the area. As of late
Tuesday afternoon it looks like it is up for good.

As Ralph mentioned, it was very fortunate that the site was spared the
devastation of the fires. Areas all around the site sustained damage,
but luckily the flames apparently did not make it to the top of the
peak. I need to get in touch with the site owner to find out exactly
how things look in the area. Right now, only property owners have been
allowed back into the area. It will probably be some time before the
general public will be allowed back into the region.

Checking some things on our club digi the other day, and I noticed that I
don't get a coverage circle for it when I select that option in WinAPRS.
What parameter is used for that? I need to make a trip to the tower pretty
soon anyway, and I want to get that set properly.

Also, I've seen that some use the two letter state identifier in the UIDIGI
command. What does this do? I've got the UIDIGI set to:
UIDIGI ON RELAY,WIDE,TRACE,SGATE (I might add that there are so few digis
where I'm at that the LAN stuff I've seen discussed doesn't apply here.)

Comments, recommendations?
