Sub: Bit error rate- 50% - is it ok??

The measure of the data link is effective throughput or more accurately the
bit error rate (ratio of corrupted to uncorrupted data). none of the
amateur radios give this figure.
I am using Motorola VHF Voice Radio (Model GM950i, RF 25 watt, F-148.575
Mhz, channel spacing- 25 Khz) . They're voice radios with data tacked on
the end, for GPS \AVL applications. I am using a TNC connected with radio
with baudrate 4800. I am getting bit error rate as 50% (Ratio of corrupted
to uncorrupted date). Is the bit error rate OK. ?

Sitting here in Atlanta, it is heart wrenching to see the destruction and
devastation from the fires in California.
Through my visits, I have come to love the Lake Arrowhead/Crestline area
with all the beautiful trees.
My heart goes out to all who are suffering through the California
fires. My thanks go to the relentless firefighters and emergency workers.

Some of you may recall that once upon a time I had a small N4NEQ digi up in
the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead.
Operation transferred to WB6ZSU several years ago and the call changed to
N6EX-2

Reports have it that fire burned almost up to the home where the digi is
(up at 5000 ft or so) but that the home still stands. I don't know for sure.
Many nearby homes have burned.

We haven't heard from the Digi since about Saturday, but another radio at
the site was still working a day or 2 ago (it had a big bank of batteries)
So let's keep our fingers crossed for everyone and everything up in the hills.

Here's hoping that we see a position update on this link
soon! http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=N6EX-2

The best site I have found for info on the area is
http://www.rimoftheworld.net
