I seem to have a problem with my xastir show packet data screen
It is intermittent. Everything runs well, except the show packet data
screen.
If I select "tnc data only" i just get carriage returns, although sometimes
it works.
If i select net data only - just carriage returns as well.
I did not have this problem with the previous version of xastir

What is going on ? data is coming in but i just get carriage returns

You can look at the IGATE coverage along I 10 from Pensacola FL to Ft
Stockton TX and then up US 285 to Santa Fe using the Path Relay, Wide2-2.
NM says they cover the state and it looks like they do. In the Next two
weeks I'll be traveling up I 25 and East on I 80 and down I 77 back to South
Carolina.

I think I have thought about it Jim and here is what I come up with.
Hopefully any organization taking on the responsibility of providing
emergency communications has identified possible locations where they can
pre-installed power cabling and have done so. That combined with most
amateurs desire to have transportability between their own vehicles and
shacks calls for some sort of easily used connector, a "standard" connector
only makes sense. Yes; those who want to be prepared should have the skill
to be able to find a power source in a vehicle, make safe use of it and have
the neccessary tools, along with supplies in their go kit. I can't recall
anyone disputing that in the current discussion.--73

I was just paging through a MFJ catalog that came in the mail last week
and it appears that they also now carry the power pole connectors and
also Outlet Strips.

I have not researched APP very much but may do that later in the year so
I am not sure how good the prices are. They are listing 6 pairs with 40A
contacts as $x.xx up to 100 pairs for $xx.xx. Seems to be a good price
and since they say Power Poles with 40A contacts I am assuming that is
the housing also.

I also like this company because he also stocks the 15 amp APP's. They
fit into the same plastic body of the 30's but have a smaller crush area
and work better with the 22 guage wire that I use a lot of.

Also for the guy asking about panel mounts. Wes also stocks the "E"
shaped metal brackets that allow you to panelmount just a single APP
connector.

The 40 amp contacts are the same as the 30 amp. They are open so you can
stuff a larger wire in. They are also not as well made I am not sure
Anderson even makes the 40 amp pins as the quality is not up to there
standards. The 20 amp contacts are the same as the 30 amp except the
wire hole is smaller.
I have been recomending APP for 20 years. Glad they are finally being
discovered. The first thing I do when getting a new radio is cut of the
connector and intall a PP. I have never been able to get two radios with
the same connector even if the same brand.

Is anyone having trouble with running javAPRS at www.jfindu.net ? If
so, what OS, browser, and Java are you running (please indicate version
for each) and what error message, if any, are you getting? Do you get
the same problem with any of the samples at www.aprs-is.net/javaprs

The D700 has the same problem. Listening to two VHF freqs at same time and
key up on one interferes with the other.

Yes, it can, though it'll interrupt reception on the other receiver if
the other receiver is set to the same band as the data transmissions.
With APRS transmissions (the only ones a D7 does well at) that's
500-1000 ms - as much as a couple of sylables.

AUTOMATIC DIGIPEATER ROUTING under the new n-N paradigm WB4APR
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have already shown how the new n-N paradigm can be easily and
transparenlty phased-in INSTANTLY in existing hardware anywhere that any
SYSOP's chose without impact to current users and practices. Here is
another great idea on how we can also phase in automatic IGate routing as
well!

It has long been suggested by several of you that the signle PATH of
"IGATE" should cause smart digipeaters to pre-emptively capture that
packet and to automatically change the path to whatever that digi knows is
the best path to the nearest Igate. The problem is, that until sufficient
numbers of smart digis exist, the use of "IGATE" in a path is just added
overhead and inneffective everywhere else.

Here is the new idea. If you have a SMART DIGI, then simply use the FIRST
HOP of "RELAY" as the flag for automatic IGate routing. If the digi sees
"RELAY,xxx,..." then the new APRS paradigm allows that path to be
pre-emptively replaced by ANY smart digi with the shortest path to the
nearest IGate.

This concept appears to violate one of my fundamental principles that user
paths MUST not be modified without the expressed INTENT of the sender.
But under close inspection, an initial use of the RELAY hop has always
tacitly meant "I want this packet to be picked-up by anything possible and
forwarded onward to the established APRS infrastructure. This can include
the APRS-IS!.

So, under the new APRS n-N paradigm, and in recogniton of the fact that we
do not want RELAY used where it is not needed or intended, we have already
included these RULES for the use of RELAY:

1) Only used by users as the first hop
2) Digipeated with callsign subsititution by local RELAY digis
3) Digipeated by remote fill-in home or other stations
4) RELAY should NOT be digipeated by any home or other station who's
vicinity is also covered by a full service APRS digi
5) Supported in ALL full-service APRS digipeaters

To which we can add:

6) Smart DIGI's may capture any direct RELAY,xxx,... path and change the
path automatically to the shortest path to the nearest IGate. And users
must accept such manipulation of their paths when using RELAY.
Such automation must also include the intelligence to be monitoring the
IGate in real time and only doing substitution if the digis has knowledge
that the IGate is operational.

This simple approach to automatic IGate path routing seems to be a simple,
backwards compatible, transparent step forward with the existing system
towards where we are headed under the new APRS n-N paradigm.
