I have been watching the TNC Screen of my station (using APRS+) for about
the last hour, or so; and have seen all the MAJOR DIGI's (K5FTW, K5FTW-5,
WX5FWD, WO5M-10, WA0D-10, W5DCR-3, W5NGU-3, W5GDC-15, K5QBM-2 ) here in the
DFW Metroplex id / transmit. Not a one of them have opened up my D700...
which has Voice Alert set on (100 Hz Tone).
There was an out of town traveler passing through along I-20 (from west to
east) this past weekend who was running Voice Alert and beaconing about
every 60 seconds... I failed to make a note of who it was.
The fact that the squelch on my D700 kept opening up drew my attention to
the radio.

Can you be more specific so I know what I have to add?
Is it converting incomming data from an IGATE link to third-party format?
Isn't the IGATE supposed to do this when it converts the IGATE data back to
AX.25 packets?
or
Do you want to convert the third party string back to a "real" packet
header as if it was never send through an IGATE. This is tricky since non
AX.25 complient callsigns are used in the third-party headers like the Q
construct. To do this the additions to the path made by the IGATE need to
be stripped off.
Kind regards,
Henk.

It appears there was an ISP failure during the evening hours from somewhere
around 0400z - 1100z. Sorry about the inconvenience. (Sure cut down on
the spam, though :-)

Is anybody working on an open-source TNC?

I've been debating whether to even mention this... Here goes...
I have another solar tetroon aloft, this time a 3000 cubic foot version
(about 28 feet along each edge). It appears, though, that something has
gone wrong with the APRS payload - perhaps before it even left my hands
(since I have no packets recorded on my laptop that was at the launch site).
It lifted off at 8:31 this morning from Novi, Michigan and was last seen
heading NE.... I was in a hurry this morning and didn't actually check the
telemetry before I let it go - I had already checked this particular payload
a few days ago and thought, "hey, it works, why waste the time?". So... I
just turned everything on and let it go.
Big mistake it seems (redundancy, I know... double-check it all, I know, I
know). At any rate, it should top out around 60k feet and likely land
somewhere in southern Ohio or -gasp- possibly West Virginia.
So if you happen to be outside today and you're anywhere in the flight path,
please look up - it looks like a bright star in the daytime sky when it's at
altitude and can be resolved into a triangular shape with binoculars. Let
me know if you see it! :-)

Robert
