Hello group, I have been trying with little success to correctly configure a
tracker for my car. I'm using the KPC-3 Plus with a Garmin eTrex GPS. I have
been to the " ? " site and found it very useful, yet I still am unable to
transmit my Lat / Long , and icon symbol. I have tested the GPS using UiView
and the cross hairs are correct. I use Winpack to program the tnc. The only
message that gets transmitted is the word $gpgga. I have made all the usual
mistakes with pin connections and baud rates!
My path is correct, but no GPS info is being TXed.

Thanks

I think most tnc's will be looking for $GPRMC. Although some you can tell
what to look for.
UI-VIEW will most likely accept $GPGGA as well as $GPRMC.
What you need to do is confirm that $GPRMC is missing - which you have done.
Then look closely at the menu options in the extrex.
My GPS 72 here as it came out of the box did not put out $GPRMC.
I had to hit "MENU" on the GPS to get into the advanced NMEA setup.
Then I could tick $GPRMC.
By the way do you know your KPC-3 is looking for $GPRMC ?
Does it only do $GPRMC ? My D700 (tnc inside) seems to look at both RMC and
GGA.
Seems you will be ok, just a setup issue in etrex.
Make sure your KPC-3 is setup correctly too.
Maybe you can dump the kpc-3 config to me and I can have a look ?

I see two issues here:-

1. GPS is not putting out $GPRMC
2. TNC may not be setup right

Make sure that you use CAPITAL letters for the $GPGGA

I personally think this isn't the approach digi operators should be
taking..

The reason I do, is thinking the next step will be limiting the beacon
rates by digipeater sysops for what ever reason they feel is appropriate.

Now, when a situation arises where the rates need increased for some
event, (emrgency), how could this restriction be lifted?

I guess the special event, (emergency), could change frequency

Greetings,

Release 1.15b8 of NOSaprs for TNOS 2.40 and JNOS 111f systems
is now available for use. Official website is as follows :

  http://www.qsl.net/ve4klm/packet/aprss.html

Several points if anyone cares ...

1) This is a complete kit, can be applied from scratch or overtop of an
existing version. MAKE sure you read the release history and
documentation to see what has changed as far as NOSaprs commands,
syntax, conventions, from version to version.

2) The AXUDP mods that I originally made for JNOS 111f included a couple of
files (config.c and commands.h) which I also had to modify for NOSaprs
some time ago. My last few kits had the AXUDP mods missing. I've made
sure to include them again in this kit for those that use AXUDP for
their JNOS. Thanks to Bob (VE3MCH) for pointing it out :-)

3) This kit contains a critical fix regarding NOSaprs truncating larger
sized APRS packets before sending them off to the APRS internet system.
A couple of guys were concerned that their WX frames did not make it to
   the APRS internet system intact.

4) A couple of fixes put in to make sure that the length of certain type of
APRS frames do not exceed the official APRS specification, for example
Messaging frames are not supposed to exceed 67 bytes.

Best regards,

Maiko Langelaar / VE4KLM

That might not be a bad idea.

Maybe put a dual frequency station at the command post (emergency WIDE),
and keep all the hobby traffic separate. Lots of good UHF equipment laying
around.
