Greetings Eldred
Your queery reminded me of my days as telegraphist in the G.P.O. when we
used to play chess with a few chaps via the telegraph network.
Using small pocket chess sets near the operating position we would receive
the other chaps move and note it down and do the move and when we had made
our decision would move our chessman and let the other guy know what the
move was.
The easiest notation for that was numbering each block from the "white"
side as A,B,C,etc from the lefthand side and then again as 1,2,3 etc from
the base upwards toward the black side. The chessmen were donated as
K=King,Q=Queen,B=Bishop,Kt=Knight,R=Rook(Castle) and P=Pions.
Ihave not played since 1960 but am willing to give it a try again.
Hope you have many replies
	73 Phil
