I don't think your problem is the same as ours at all. For one thing you
have a huge population, ours is small.
The previous Australian Government under Howard had the boat problem under
control. The number of boats arriving was small and easily dealt with.
Now the present Government has lost the plot and the boats are arriving in
droves. The problem is that there are two ways of coming into this country
as a refugee. One is the legal way, to get in the queue and apply for
assylum. The other is to pay thousands of dollars to a smuggler who will
load you onto a leaky wooden boat and bring you into Australian
waters.These people have enough money to pay that sort of sum. They are
not poor. You also take the risk of drowning as many did recently when
they were wrecked on Xmas Island and you finish up in a detention centre
while the Government authorities check you out.
Why do they check you out? You might be a terrorist wanting to cause
maximum damage to Australians as happened in Bali, or you might have
tuberculosis, or smallpox, or some other disease wiped out in Australia
Also you might be carrying foods that could bring foot and mouth disease
or some other serious problem into the country. The isolation of this
country has some advantages. You also become a burden on the Australian
tax payer, and if you are like some of those in detention you riot and
wreck the place, set fire to it and attack those looking after you and
then wonder why Australians want you sent back to the place you left.

listening.
