Hello All,
I have a Sony TV remote control. I have had a problem with some
plastic buttons not being reliable. By placing a BC radio alongside I could
hear when the buttons worked and when they were intermittant.
The buttons are conductive plastic buttons which press onto PCB tracks to
short them together. Checking with a multimeter I found the reliable buttons
had a rsistance on the meter probes of around 50k ohm.
However the failing ones were up near 1 M ohm.
Cleaning made no difference.
No amount of cleaning made any difference. It seems that the button
rersistance has permanently changed. Whether the buttons conductivity is
built into the rubber or whether it is a coating I don't know.
So out to the kitchen and cutting a piece of aluminium foil.
Cutting the foil to size I have glued the little pieces of foil onto the
buttons with a white multipurpose glue.
Works like a charm and so far I can reccomend it if you have a dodgy remote
control.
