Hi Gary and readers,
I just HAD to change the subject title, all the Re this and Re that
callsigns stuff was getting out of hand. (;->)
We don't need to build a monster radiotelescope on the Dark Side Of The
Moon (forgive me Pink Floyd) since we already have the VLA in New Mexico.
This multiple dish movable/steerable array not only takes the place of
one monster dish like in PR but using such an array not only gives more
gain when all of them are used together it also makes pinpointing a radio
source easier than linking to other sites via the Internet unless such
great separation of receivers is needed.
As for manipulating EM on a planetary scale I'll go you one better.
Rather than using the EM fields of our solar system for communication
(such vast power isn't needed) we'd be much better off harnessing them
for electricity. The Earth-Moon field alone can power every system we
have and more with a considerable reserve, the Jupiter-Sun field could
fry the Earth to a cinder without causing so much as a hiccup in the
solar system. Now where is Faraday and his bar magnet when we need him?
(;->)
The paranoia about beaconing to outer space is nothing new, I remember
back in the 60s an episode of The Outer Limits called Galaxy Being. A
radio station engineer set up some apparatus in the transmitter shack and
when the DJ ignored his instructions he maxed out the power, this being
rode the signal to Earth. It was just another variation on the age-old
science fiction stories about alien invasions, finding our worst fear
realized. We have trouble enough with our petty wars, facing an
unstoppable enemy scares the bejeebers out of us. On that note War Of The
Worlds just came on TV so I'll take a break for Gene Barry and the little
brown (not green) bug-eyed critters. Hmmmm, maybe the real Martians are
laughing their heads off, all three of them. (;->)
