Maybe to each scrapgate.

No I haven't lost the debate.
How the heck can a scrapgate pass on lots of mail if it doesn't have
permanent visibility of the satellite ?
IIRC each pass around the earth takes 90 minutes but the orbit changes each
time as to where the satellite is visible.
So an earth station might get one overhead pass and one either side
that is still visible but with a reduced operating window.
I suppose at best a window of 12 minutes is reasonable before visibilty
is lost. Three of them per day doesn't seem like a lot to me.
Now when weeks later it arrives at another satgate that satgate may then
forward on to its nearest landbased bbs but this is surely where the
problems start. The messages are now so old that they become "expired" in
the system and forwarding is halted. The mail never arrives.

Ah so we had a joker in the pack eh ?
Perhaps this was all going on during my experiences of delayed/lost mail
experiences and hushed up.
The truth is coming out now.
The genie is out the bottle ;-)
