AUSTRALIA [to Myanmar-Burma] Radio Australia, the ABC's international
radio broadcaster, has begun broadcasting to Burma.
The Burmese language service began Monday morning with two news
broadcasts.
Radio Australia's Chief Executive, Hanh Tran, said Burma's elections next
year and increased international attention on the military-led country
prompted the decision to start the new radio service.
"This is the first new language service for Radio Australia in more than
15 years," he said.
The broadcasts will be transmitted to Burma seven days a week on shortwave
frequencies 12010 and 17665 kHz.
The Burmese service will begin as a 15-minute news broadcast on shortwave,
satellite and online at 5:30 am, and be repeat three times across peak
morning listening times.
More broadcasts will be added in the evening as the service grows.

Did anyone try and/or have any luck hearing Radio Mada this weekend, 1530-
1600 UT Sat/Sun on 15670 kHz via Pridnestrovye? I have yet to see any firm
reports of its full broadcasts successfully aired since it started a few
weeks ago. All I have been able to hear is a trace of a signal on 15670
kHz.

SAINT HELENA St. Helena Day. Bald ist es wieder soweit, SHD ist am
kommenden Samstag. Auf der Web-Seite von RSH gibt es naeheres zum Postweg.
Man soll seinen Brief via UK schicken. Fuer mich eigentlich nichts neues,
hatte ich 2007 schon problemlos gemacht, mit Porto fuer UK. Robert Kipp
schreibt aber, man soll aus Germany 1,70 EUR, also Welt-Airmail-Porto
zahlen ... Warum denn das?
(Wolf Fiedler-D, A-DX Nov 9)
ueber Kapstadt ging/geht.
Helena.
The 'Party On-The-Air' will have the following schedule: Time in UTC
Target Area(s) 2000-2100 India / Southeast Asia 2100-2200 Japan / Asia
2200-2330 Europe 2330-0100 North America/Central America/Caribbean
The transmission will be on 11092.5 KHz in Upper Side Band, as usual.
To get a QSL from Radio St. Helena, you must send a written and verifiable
reception report by AIRMAIL and include sufficient return postage. Email-
reports will be not be verified. Recordings will not be returned.

6170 (x7290) via Rimavska Sobota, 150 kW, IRRS-Shortwave evening CET
frequency change.
Please notice that we will have an immediate frequency change for our
evening CET slot each Fri, Sat & Sun effective Nov. 13, 2009. We are
dropping temporarily 7290 kHz in favour of what may be a cleaner
frequency.
Don't forget that lower frequency bands that allow for propagation within
1-4,000 km during darkness are extremely congested here in EU due to the
low sunspots, so many stations are fighting on top of each other :-(
All other times and frequencies remains unchanged. So please take a note
that as of Friday Nov 13, 2009 we will be on 6170 kHz from 1900-2100 UTC
(Fri, Sat & Sun) and tune into our programs. Please send your reception
reports by email to:

Although we cannot guarantee a QSL to each of you, we will reply to
everyone by email, and we will greatly appreciate hearing that "there is
someone listening out-there" on our new frequency next week-end. Updated

TAIWAN RTI's Japanese service on 9735 is usually OK, sometimes puts
audible spurs on 9730 and 9740 as I have occasionally noted, but Oct 30 at
1357 UT just as I tuned in, found very distorted and splattering signal
with music ruining BBC on 9740 kHz. Fortunately RTI went off at 1357:30
UT.
You won't find RTI entries in HFCC, since the ChiCom force Taiwan not to
participate, meanwhile themselves being the world's premier jammer hardly
in line with the spirit of HFCC cooeperation; but Aoki shows this in A-09
as 1300-1400 via Tainan, 250 kW, 45 degrees toward Tokyo and thus also
USward, likely the same in B-09.
RTI 9735 Japanese service Oct 30 was very distorted, so how is it Oct 31?
At 1322 UT, good modulation but splattering just a tad above and below.
Certainly an ailing unreliable transmitter like others upon Taiwan; even
RA found itself off-frequency tnx to Taiwan's relay circa 11550 kHz.

U.K./AUSTRIA/POLAND/UAE VT broadcasts Polskie Radio shortwave output.
Support services company VT Group has secured a contract to broadcast
20 hours a day of analogue and digital output from the Polish public
broadcaster Polskie Radio using its network of European and global
transmission sites. VT will deliver the programming on shortwave to
listeners in Europe and Israel. Broadcasts by Polskie Radio's External
Service, Poland's international radio service, will be delivered in
Polish, English, German, Hebrew, Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian.
Programming, originating in Warsaw, will be brought into VT's Media
Management Centre in London for scheduling and distribution to various
transmission sites using VT's Global Media Network - a combination of
fibre connectivity and satellite delivery. The majority of transmission
will go out from VT's site at Woofferton in Shropshire, supported by other
sites including Rampisham and Skelton, and partner sites in Dhabiyya in
the United Arab Emirates and at Moosbrunn in Austria.
Most of the programming will be analogue but there is also provision for
1.5 hours a day of digital output using DRM digital short wave.
VT's John Prior, General Manager Broadcast and Security, commented: " We
are delighted to be appointed as Polskie Radio's exclusive shortwave
transmission partner supplementing their existing output by satellite and
Internet. The move demonstrates a continued commitment to short wave from
a major European broadcaster."
The four-year contract with Polskie Radio, which started in late October,
is worth some o1.5 million and means VT now has nearly 40 customers for
its transmission services. Polskie Radio's daily output will place it in
the company's top ten broadcast customers.

IBB Delano transmitters moved to Tinang-PHL, see page 48 - 53, page 90.
Following notes from
<http://www.bbg.gov/reports/FY_2010_Congressional_Budget_Request_ONLINE_VE
RSION.pdf>
The four Brown Boveri transmitters from Delano, installed in 1986, have
been moved to Tinang where two such transmitters are already operational.
Here the ex-Delano rigs replace old transmitters from 1969. No word about
what will happen to the remaining equipment at Delano, but considering its
age I suspect that the scrap yard is the most likely destination.
Equipment from Briech is considered for reuse elsewhere. Modulators from
Briech are already in use at Udon Thani (same Marconi-designed and
Cincinnati-made transmitters there).
The modification of an ex-Belize mediumwave transmitter for tropical bands
operation from Marathon is still in the pipeline.
At present it is under consideration to lease airtime also on a second
FEBC transmitter in South Korea, which must refer to 1566 kHz / 250 kW.
The document confirms the mediumwave relays of RFA from Mongolia and says
that expanding them is under consideration at present.
VOA English is supposed to be cut back further from 14 to 9 hours a day.
Studio equipment at Springfield VA (Alhurra and Radio Sawa) will be
replaced completely, some modernization is planned for Washington (VOA)
facilities as well. One RFA studio will be turned into a TV studio.
