Hello Bob VK6BE and Warren KB2VXA and everyone ...
Bob VK6BE..I enjoyed your comments on your radio experience in 1927.
Unfortunately, I wasn't about in those days, so I missed it all.
I started an insterest in 1950s late and early 1960s, and only
because I wanted to listen to my favourite hockey team's
away games, and know then before the morning in school...win or
loss and who did what. Gave me an advantage.
The radio was a German make called an "Oshello" nice tabletop
for the living room....nice wood cabinet...big speakers in the
front, and plugs for tape recorder or record player....but
what got me was it had "ears". All I had was a short wire
going to a tree less then 30ft away...at 10ft perhaps above the
lawn..and I heard a lot of things one night after a game that
started me off listening to here and there..AM & FM Broadcasting
and SWL and some hams who weren't running the "Donald Duck Mode".
Thanks Bob ... Loved your posting. Have stored it to read again
and for my records.
Warren KB2VXA ... < Now with your own forum WARREN @WW > <g>
I read your item on the Pirates hijacking the BBC. Now that
has my interest. I will have to look that one up, along
with Lemmy. I also have somewhere the video tape of the
day someone hijacked the link from a Chicago TV station
and put their own TV production on there .... I laughed
very long and hard that day ...but not the FCC that flooded
the area.
Anyhow....with more replys to the packet postings today
I have to get moving along ... thanks Bob and Warren.
Peter
