WELL DONE

One must certainly say "Well Done" to the English Rugby team and all those
associated with their campaign in the recent World Cup series.

Whilst I do not live in a "rugby" state I have seen quite some interest
shown here in this competition.

( I have been a keen supporter of the North Melbourne (Australian Rules)
football team (The Kangaroos) since 1945 and am not about to change my
allegiance to another football code.

By way of explanation, this game is foremost in VK1,VK3, VK5, VK6 and VK7.
The rugby states are VK2 and VK4.)

The pre-match "blather and hype" from the press was pretty well along the
lines of what we have come to expect, however, the various team members,
coaches etc. whom I saw interviewed both before, and after, the game
certainly conducted themselves in a dignified manner.

I must also say "Well Done" to Andy GM7HUD for his contribution in reply
to comments made by Bob VK6BE.

His bulletin was thoughtful and his comments were obviously based on an
apparently good understanding of what competitive sport is all about.

For myself, I do find it rather boring to see the same few team(s) winning
time after time.

I have, however, noted that such things seem to go in cycles and I have no
doubt that we will see changes take place, yes, even in the cricket
world, be it only on a gradual basis.

I was pleased to see a report in the press to the effect that both teams
in the final match conducted themselves honourably both in victory and
defeat.
This is the way sport should be played.

Now to try and think up some kind of suitable reply to a (rather smug)
e-mail message from another Andy who is an England supporter living in
Wales and married to my wife's niece.

He was the one who kindly sent me a nice white shirt that carried a big
letter "O" and a rose on the front.

I wore that shirt to a rehearsal of a major Male Voice Choir recently but
it did not elucidate much in the way of comment except from another friend
who has the name of David (or is that Dafid?) Evans. (You can guess where
he comes from.)

From post World Cup series comments, it also appears that the organisers
of the competition did extremely well on the financial side with a
stunning profit from the series. The suggestion is that these funds will
be suitably utilised to further development of the sport.

It is better to see something like that occur rather than see the money
whisked away into the pockets of those who don't really need it.

Incidentally, I have also recently received another e-mail message that
depicts an Australian "HAKA". It is a well done visual and audio
presentation.

I can only guess that it is a new attempt towards a campaign to try and
scare off another highly competitive Rugby team, and maybe others as well.

If anyone would like a copy of this particular presentation they need only
advise me to that effect and provide me with their e-mail address.

Regards,

Ian
