Peter VE3WBZ mentioned "wallpaper"... I've always remembered my first memories
of a ham shack, from when I was a kid. The guy across the street from our
home was a ham, his name was "Hip" Bivianna in Clayton NC USA. I never knew
his callsign, but spent many hours in his shack watching him build or repair
tube gear, sitting on the air working AM DX, etc. It seemed magical to me,
and part of the memory of his hamshack was that the walls were covered in
QSL cards from all over the world. To this day it has a nostalgic feel to
me, and when I got me call in 1974 @ 14 years old, I set out to build my
collection. If you look at the picture of my shack on my website, you'll
see that I have my walls in the radio room covered in cards...not as thickly
as "Hip" did, but I still like the nostalgic look of "wallpaper".
I know QSLing isn't for everyone, but I surely enjoy it :-)
