he had no computer assistance during the contest (see

Dear OQRP Contest friends,
here are the results of the 18th OQRP-Contest.
"Handmade- and "Open" categories are listed together.
The WAE Contest, in which the 100w class has also been re-integrated
into a common score table, has opened my eyes:
The transparency is greater than with separate tables, without degrading
the achievement of the 100w entries marked *. A good place among the "big
guns" actually means an additional symbolic praise.
The common representation yields no significantly deviating result in the
OQRPC when comparing "Handmade" with "Open".
1) because not a few OM ended up in the wrong category what with incomplete
information (resulting from a too "diagonal" reading of the rules?).
2) because e.g using a K2 or similar rig results in no operational or other
disadvantage. On the contrary, especially the ubiquitious K2 is rather top
of the range, and its user far from "handicapped".
From a "sportive" point of view it would make more sense to tag only those
"Handmade" who enter with a veritable singularity, i.e. no kit but self
designed and built, one's own creation.
If the latter can successfully compete with commercial rigs and kits, the
builder and user has truly earned the "*".
To underline above thoughts, "Handmade" and "Open" results appear in a
common table, with "Handmade" entries marked "*". (Those who wish to do so,
can thus easily make two separate tables.)
At least in the Packet Radio newsgroups and on the QRPCC homepage
(www.qrpcc.de) the employed equipment is published together with the results,
open to analysis by all.
