Sorry Jim,
I thought of this after I had sent you the response and
sure enough, the MFJ-9406 is a radio. I am
imbarrassed.. However, I will make this statement:
IMHO, any radio can be made to run PSK31.. I would
like to have one of those radios on a couple bands
Jim..

Yes it is a QRP rig running about 12 watts. It's not a powerhouse, but
since PSK31 doesn't need a lot of power, I thought I'd give it a try.
Looking at the radio I don't see any outputs, other than a headphone jack
on the back that I could connect to the computer. Can anyone point me to
a wiring diagram to make up a cable.
Thanks
Jim Mahoney

I can't figure out where to put the brag.txt file that gets loaded as
one of the macro buttons. I put it in the same folder as the binary.
That didn't work. I get an error "can't load brag.txt" or something to
that effect. I tried the c:\ folder. Nope. I tried the desktop.
Nope.
Has anyone made it work? I even tried a new macro and called the file A
without an extension, but that didn't work either.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Jim.

Hi Jim. I just tried the brag file macro in both WinPSK, and WinPSKse.
I made up a short brag file named brag.txt, and put it in the WinPSKse
directory. The program finds it just fine. Same with WinPSK.
Did you install WinPSKse in a different directory? What program did you
use to create you brag file? I suggest using windows notepad.

I have installed both Digipan and WinPSK on an IBM 600 Pentium Thinkpad and
have the audio from my rig into the computer sound card's mic jack.
No waterfall. Just solid black. Nothing. The audio of the laptop works
perfectly with other applications, such as CDs. Something seems to be
blocking the audio input from the software. Any ideas?

Have you selected microphone input and adjusted the mic level from
the windows recording control? An easy way to get to this is from
the DigiPan configure menu, select "Spectrum Drive..." make sure
the checkbox for microphone input is checked. If you don't see a
microphone control, click options and make sure microphone is
checked, you will then see the control.

If you don't

Be aware folks, that many versions of Win 95 and attendant software requires
the box for a device to be UNchecked to be activated. Checked is often to
mute the device!
Also note that some computers, especially older laptops with built-in
microphones may not have a mike input, only line in. This is true, for
example in the IBM 755 series of 486DX4/100 series machines, which are
otherwise quite suitable to run Digipan, for example. In those cases where
there is only a line input, the audio drive must be considerably stronger
than a mike input would expect. I found, for example that I needed to short
a resistor (R19) in the output attenuator in the new Small Wonder Labs PSK-20
transceiver to raise the audio for a friend's IBM 755 machine. I reported
this to Dave Benson NN1G at Small Wonder Labs, and he advised he will keep
this mod in mind for folks who have similar situations.

has some good interface information. Your biggest problem with the MFJ
is going to be frequency stability, I think. I believe it uses a
standard VFO.
Make sure you keep the power low (under 5 watts) so you don't burn up
the final in the MFJ.

Richard, I had similar problem when I hooked up my TS 450. The audio from
the back of the 450 wasn't strong enough
for the sound card. I ended up taking the sound off of my JPS NIR 12 DSP
which was amplified. It is something
else to consider.
