I was addressing the fact that I mentioned that WinPSK had adjustable
AFC limits, and that Zakanaka also has those attributes. So the list
is a short one: 2. That's two out of six psk31 programs on my
conputer. Some are older, that is a few months old, which is
a long time in the age of PSK31 program development. I think it's
a good thing, and I like to see so many excellent programs being
developed. Zakanka is in beta test right now, so it's not fair
to compare it to some of the finished products. Each of the programs
has some unique features I like. Even "old" Psk31SBW, which in my
mind is a standard of comparison for each new one, adn which in my
opinion has yet to be beat in basic performance.

Hi Mike. If you have PSK31 by G3PLX (Peter Martinez) read the help
file. It has a lot of good info about the tuning of PSK signals in that
program. Digipan is probably the easiest program to tune a signal in
out of the three programs you mention. Tune your rig to 14.069. With
Digipan running, you should see 1 or more light colored lines running
vertically down the display where there are signals. (I have yet to see
any time that there are no PSK signals on 20m in the last several
months) These lines that are PSK signals will look like a double line
(for an unmodulated carrier) or a semi-solid line about 1/8 inch wide or
so in the display. To tune a signal, put the mouse pointer's tip in the
center of a signal, and left click. You just tuned in your first PSK
signal.
If you go to www.psk31.com you will find links to a lot of information
about PSK, and especially interface techniques. I have connected my
laptop's headphone jack (for transmit) to the modulation input on my
rig's accessory jack. I have connected my laptop's Microphone input jack
(for receive) to the fixed audio output on my rig's accessory jack.
Each connection goes through an audio transformer. Most folks us a 1:1
audio transformer in the transmit and receive lines. I used 2 20:1
transformers that I had on hand. This is to isolate the computer's
chassis ground from the rig's chassis ground. If this is not done,
there can be problems. I prefer to use the accessory connection instead
of using the mic and speaker connections on the rig. (I use an Icom
706MKII)
Again, the best advice I can give you is to read the help in PSK31. (and
the other programs too, but PSK31 has the best explanation I have seen)

Because we are all on the Internet, I thought that you might want to check
out www.qslcard.com. It is a pretty neat idea. I registered, and it only
took a few minutes to set up an electronic QSL card. Sort of a neat idea and
it is free for the basic services (but they do solicit donations). Joe N8TI

I am attempting to gather a list of operating freqs for 6 meters and
above PSK activity. These freqs will be used in an upcoming PSK only
contest sponsored by me and the 6Plus Activity Club. If you have
suggestions for freqs in the 6meter and above range please let me know.
I will collect the data and add it to a website that I am currently
developing.

Greetings all,
I have upgraded the shack computer with a new m'board and cpu. The
m'board is an ENPC PS-21 with an onboard sound card. ESS Solo 1 to be
specific. I am getting a lot of background noise on the psk broadcast
signal. Has anyone had expeirence with this board/soundcard combo and if
so did you have a similar problem and what was the cure.?
Thanks to all

Are you using your ACC plug on the back of your rig? If so make sure your
rig's mike is disconnected. When you key up it will open your mike if its
still connected.
Are you using any isolation transformers in your audio line? Try a 1:1 xfrmr
on both.

Subject: [psk31] WINPSK thoughts on a good SEVERAL good programs
WINPSK version 2 has all that you could ever want except dual receive.
WINPSK version 2 by MOE has adjustable AFC, Adjustable panning width.
It also allow the Macros to be assigned to PF keys.
WINPSKse has dual receive.
NEITHER has a true capture file. that is something that should be
there in a terminal program. That means that it would save
automatically the incoming text when active, ask if you overlay and it
would, close automatically when you close the program.
It would be nice to add the dual receive to WINPSK version 2. Then
you would have the best of both worlds. It would be nicer if the
settings dialog in WINPSK ver 2 were more like that in se and if you
could set the backgrounds but at this point I guess version 2 is my
choice again.
I would really love to see those two get together so that all the best
of both could be used.
At least it would be nice if the names were more unique. :-)
OTOH they are both free, so maybe I ask too much.

Subject: Re: [psk31] 6 meter and above PSK freqs?
Most 6m psk operators have settled on 50.290. I have made numerous contacts
on that freq and none elsewhere. PSK31 is a weak signal narrow band mode so
fits in nicely in that part of the seldom used 6m band. Non psk users will
suggest other freqs in the FM portion of the band.
Nothing settled on 2m yet but contacts are being made at 144.300+/-. It works
well for me.
Don't know anyone operating above 2m but I would reccomend a freq in the weak
signal portion, just guessing 432.200 or 432.300 would do nicely.
Do not choose frequencies out of the weak signal portion of the bands as most
of us have our equipment fine tuned to operate within that part of the band
and I, for one, am not interested in retuning for psk.
