No...then you would be on two different frequencies, drifting apart,
taking up two "channels" instead of one for your QSO. Stay with him,
and ask him to correct his frequency if you are in danger of being on
top of someone else.

Subject: [psk31] Windows & COM1
Finally got onto psk with psk31 v.1.06, a Winbook XL, Rigblaster and a
Kenwood TS-440. All worked well except I used the Kenwood manual t/r
switch because I couldn't get the comm port t/r switching to work. With
Rigblaster in Auto, it would switch 'on' when Windows fired up, and the PSK
software would say it can't open COM1 (the only serial port on the
Winbook). Tried about everything with no luck. Finally went into Windows
Settings - Accessibility Options - Accessibility Properties - General, to
see that Windows was assigning COM1 to 'SerialKey Devices'. Unchecked
'Support Serial Devices', and now the auto t/r switching works fine. Seems
to me this default assignment of COM1 by Windows should not be so obscure.
Anyway, look forward to psk qso's on 10-28 MHz.

While assembling the circuit, from the May 1999 issue of QST, to key my
transmitter using the com port, my transceiver would be keyed when it should
have been unkeyed.
The problem turned out to be the 2N2222 transistor that I had bought from
Radio Shack. The diagram of the transistor on the package had the collector
and emitter pins reversed. Once the transistor was installed properly, I had
no further trouble.
Maybe those having trouble with getting their rig to key properly, might
check this out.

I must have missed this thread altogether. Who has a
PSK-31 program for the Palm Pilot? Can you direct me

HELP HELP
I have the IC-706MKIIG, RIGblaster and Digipan connected. The receive
part works fine.
When I try transmitting the little red "transmit" LCD lights and I hear
the high pitch sound.
The text appears in the "receive" window but no one answers my CQs nor do
they come back when I answer another CQ. It looks like everything is
working okay except nothing is actually going out.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Many thanks

Dear Fellow Warblers,
This is NOT a NEW problem.
This problem was reported to the list in late summer last year.
Radio Shack is packaging diodes that are not only NOT per the labeling on the
package, but they are not even of the same "gender" (i.e., NPN vs PNP).
By the way, from my perspective it is not the circuit diagram on the package
that is incorrect. It is correct for the type of diode advertised. It's what
they are putting into the package that is wrong - unless you have discovered an
even newer problem.
There are many PSK'ers who are missing a wealth of good information that is
available in the archives. Eduardo has gone to a lot of trouble to provide the
archives, and they are of great value in avoiding "re-inventing the wheel",
etc.
I notice that a lot of people who would formerly pitch in and offer help and
guidance to the "newbies", are staying away in droves - possibly because they
feel that people should at least do a "little" research on the subject from
the archives and from QST before they jump on the listserver and call for help.

Last night I was listening on 14.070 using DigiPan and the normally blue
speckled waterfall turned yellow. I thought I might be overdriving the
SoundBlaster, but even with the audio all the way off it was still yellow.
Any idea what would cause this? I did notice about the same time my
processor over-temp lamp came on, but can't imagine that would affect the
color.

Hi Fran,
Lets check the following first:
1. Are you using the VOX or AUTO mode?
2. If you are using the AUTO mode is your green LED coming on when you are
transmitting?
3. Have you plugged in a speaker or headset in the other audio jack on the
RIGblaster? This will let you monitor your output from your computer and let
you know if indeed you have audio a he RIGblaster.
4. How are your AUDIO controls on your computer set? Start with your WAVE
table (if you have a seperate control, most do) Is that at full volume? Check
your MASTER volume. Your MASTER volume should be up just high enough to get
your ALC moving slightly on XMIT. Also check to see if the trimmer pot in the
back of the RIGblaster is set at about half.
Try the above and let me know how you make out. You can also check the
website at www.westmountainradio.com and check our FAQ's.
There is also a reflector for RIGblaster owners at www.qth.net. Just use the
automated subscriber there.
73 and let me know how you make out.

To All Concerned:
THERE IS NO PALM PILOT PSK31!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry had to get that out of my
system.
The orginal thread was the problem with Palm Pilot to Desktop interface
software. The Palm Pilot software remains active on the desktop computer and
keeps the COM Port it uses in a HIGH state. So if you use a RIGblaster or
homebrewed PTT circuit for PSK31 it would cause the radio to transmit
continuously if you used that seemingly empty COM port. The Palm Pilot
software must be disabled before using a serial PTT circuit.

Chip and all folks,
Yes, I have the same inconveniences as you have.
After I fix a signal, and qso starts, "dia cursor"
slids up and down as if it is looking for anything.
Then I must re-tune !
Unfortunately I do not have a complete solution for it,
however the following ideas may be sometimes efficient,
sometimes not efficient at all.
1) To turn off "snap"
2) To turn off "snap" and "afc"
3) TO turnoff "snap" and "afc" and "net"
Continuously I will make further trials to get
a resolution, and would like anyone to give me
a fine advice.
Thank you.

Have thing changed? Shouldn't the subject be "transistor mis labeled"?
I've never heard of NPN and PNP "diodes" before. I thought all diodes
were a single junction.

Uh! Why not just click on the signal or hit the right or left
arrow key to retune it? Chances are the guy accidentally has his
RIT or XIT on or maybe his transmitter drifts a bit, but better to
follow him than to take up two frequencies for the QSO.

paying much attention to the radio but knew I heard alot of

think PSK31 has arrived alive and well. Thank's Peter and everyone
