* PSK31 and QRP--this changes everything! ARRL staffer Steve Ford,
WB8IMY,
reports his PSK31 demonstration at the Vermont State Convention a few
weeks
back was a huge hit. The demonstration of PSK31 used tape-recorded
signals
and DigiPan software to show how the newly popular narrowband
keyboard-to-keyboard mode works. Among PSK31's advantages is that
successful
contacts often can be carried out at very low power levels. One
visitor--attracted to QRP operation but repelled by the prevalent use of
CW
among QRPers--suggested that PSK31 could be the answer to his prayers.
"PSK31 changes everything," Ford quoted the prospective QRPer as saying.

Hi Bob. Thanks for all your help on my setup. I have just been looking at
the schematic of the 735. Actually the acc1 input and the mike are not
going to the same input stage. I am going to go to the mike connector and
see if that is better and use the push to talk. Man oh man, I have found
several sites on psk31 and many different circuits for interfacing.
Too bad someone didn't write this for the Commodore 64. They can be found
for next to nothing. I have one dedicated for packet with Digicom. That
would be great to use for psk31 that way and not bother with using a PC.
I may take up the idea of using the Xformer too. Saw a really good
circuit for the push to talk. Both rts and dtr lines are connected using
diodes so then who cares which one is keying. You don't have to take out
the iron and change the connection. Take a look at my other hobby on my
web page. I'll let you know if I ever get this going right.

Subject: [psk31] QTH field on log bar
The Help file describes how to use the CTRL key and mouse to select QTH info
and enter it into the QTH field. However, I find it does not work for me.
When I press the CTRL key, the only effect is the control bar keys change
from those for the function keys to those for the CTRL-function keys. Also,
if I hold down the CTRL key and try to select the QTH text, I'm unable to
select anything- the cursor won't move. Maybe this is a problem involving
my trackball driver?

Jerry, I was looking at that transformer also. We used that type on auto
patches in the old days. Just for a point of info, this call is original
since 1935. Done my share of building both from scratch and kits. Was not
enthused to start building again but looks like i will have to do. I
don't have amplified speakers but had the same thought about that route
for others who have trouble. I had thought of building an amplifier for
the speakers i have but man, I just don't get to all the things on my
plate. Take a look at my web page to see what also keeps me busy. I did
try putting on the Xmitter by hand but that didn't seem to do any good. I
am receiving okay so at least that's working. I am going to try using the
mike input line perhaps that would work. Who knows. There is a difference
as I look at the circuit of the 735. Will let you know if I get it
working.
