I'm glad you had such a good time on PSK31 Joe but...... running 100watts
100% of the time in PSK31 QSO may not be too healthy for your rig. You may
find yourself replacing your final section prematurely.

I'm glad you had such a good time on PSK31. You may want to either reduce
power or not be so chatty. WHY? Because at 100watts 100% of the time you are
likely to have your finals fail prematurely, even with a good heat sink and
fan.

The back of "Computer Shopper?" <grin> It might make more sense of
compiling a rare list of machines people find on which it *won't* work.
Almost any computer faster than a 486-66, with a soundblaster compatible
sound card should run it. It doesn't even require full duplex from the
sound card, so if the machine has microphone inputs, speaker or headphone
outputs, there is no reason it *shouldn't* work. Plus, there is more than
one software program, so if there is a problem for some strange reason
with one, try another.

If its a pentium class processor and has sound you can feel prety confident
that it will support PSK31. On older 486 machines you'd have to go to the
manufacturer's site to see if you can find the machine spec's. The most
important thing is a 16bit soundblaster compatible soundcard.

PhaseShift is a program for operating PSK31 on Linux. It makes use of the
Qt library and is based on the PSK31 code writen by Hansi Reiser, dl9rdz
and Ted Williams, wa0eir.
Changes since version 0.22
- - Implemented keyboard hotkeys. CTRL-T switches TX on. CTRL-R switches TX
off immediately (and flushes any characters in TX buffer). CTRL-E
switches TX off after all characters in TX buffer were transmited.
- - Implemented emergency TX off icon (same functionality as CTRL-E).
- - Implemented point-and-click tuning for the spectrum scope.

I have used the simple circuit shown in May 1999 QST on my TS-520 with no
problems.
I used audio from ext. speaker directly to line in on soundcard for RX.
I also used the 1:1 isolation xformer circuit for TX audio to mic input.
The only hitch using the '520 is I need about 1 hour of warm up for the VFO
to stop drifting.

does the Set Markers mean. I down loaded and printed the help list but
there is no clear explanation of that particular item. Help me out guys.

Hank,
With the view set to sound, you can set up to 5 markers on the
spectral display. This puts a thin red line on the display at the
frequencies you enter. I don't know what most people use that for,
but I use it for tuning in CW signals. I use only one marker but I
put it at 700HZ which is the offset frequency I use on CW. Now
when I tune in a CW signal and center it on that marker my
transceiver will be exactly zero beat with the station. It's much
faster and more accurate than trying to do it by ear.
