I have also an FT-920, with the audio signal fed into the data connector
with audio cables (directly, without any transformer or optoisolator) and
never had such problems. I think these appear when the SWR and/or grounding
is not well solved.
But I have another observation. I must to readjust the audio level from the
soundcard when I make a frequency QSY greater then 100....150Hz, in order to
keep a relatively constant output power. I am using a 400MHz PII, 64MB RAM,
Creative Live! soundcard, and DigiPan V1.0c software. I usually set the
audio level to achieve a 40...50W output and no ALC meter reading. The TX
frequency change is made with the mouse in the DigiPan, and between
1000...1600Hz on the scale I have to make the correction mentioned. Above,
up to 2500 Hz I observed the effect of audio level much reduced on the
output power. Is this normal?
Other. Many times appears in the lists a mention: "Reply to sender, not to
the reflector, just hitting the reply button". When I make a direct reply to
a message with the button Reply to the Sender, my message will go to the
original sender, not to the reflector. Can anyone tell me why, and what is
the setting to reply to the list with one button press? I am using Outlook
Express 5.0.

Hi all,
I'm very new to PKS31 so please excuse what might be a few questions that
have been addressed before and whose answers should be obvious.
In the Spectrum Window of Digipan, I have the frequency scale shown above
the waterfall by selecting USB. By re-tuning my receiver, I can move the
vertical yellow receive lines to any frequency on the scale. I'm puzzled as
to what the frequency scale is used for and would appreciate any comments
on that.
How do I tell exactly what USB frequency one of the yellow lines is on?
How do I determine what USB frequency is not in use so that I can call CQ?

Dear Zoltan,
I believe you will find this correct, because I also use Outlook Express v 5.0.
The "Reply" button sends a reply only to the sender.
The "Reply All" button sends a reply to the sender and to the List.
If you want to send a message to the List ONLY, then set up an address in your
address book for the List and use that when originating a message.
Be advised that not all List Servers operate in the same way. The List Servers
are configured with many different options. Some do NOT operate as does this
list, but this list operates in the common or traditional way.
This message is addressed by "Reply All" button and you should see it twice in
your incoming mail.

The SSB filters in the Tx are probably not flat so the power output
varies as you change the audio freq in Digipan. Just be sure the
levels are low enough that you don't overdrive on the freq that gives
the greatest output. Personally, this is one reason I don't care for
the idea of tuning with Digipan. I leave Digipan set for 1000 Hz and
tune with the rig - usually with narrow filters in place.

One way to reply to the list with Outlook Express is to hit [Reply all] then
highlight and delete everything but the list address from the To line. This
saves the originator from receiving two copies.

Actually, it will. The audio is what is being detected, not the FM
carrier. It will be psk31 carried on an FM carrier. How you would log
it might be interesting.. ;o) It would be similar to logging FM AFSK

I doubt that he will be moving his audio frequency 100+KHz. ;o)
Unless I don't remember the original post correctly (deleted already),
he said the power would change when QSYing something like 150 KHz. If
that isn't correct, ignore this post.
To a certain extent, this is normal, but shouldn't be drastic. I find a
pretty good change from 10m to 20m and readjust audio levels
accordingly. Actually, I check the level no matter how little I moved.
I check it each time I transmit. A favorite trick of my rig is to gain
about 15 watts after it has been transmitting a minute or so.
If it is an older rig that you have to "tune" up (specifically tuning a
"preselector"), what was described would be very normal, and the
preselector should be retuned with much less than 100 KHz QSY.
It is more likely a matter of poor frequency response of the radio
(bandpass filters, etc.). Alignment might help, might not. Generally
speaking, that part of the alignment having to do with a sweep generator
and adjusting for flat response is the part that will need adjusting.

When I use my 500hz filter in my Omni and try to QSY from
750hz using Digipan remotely, I get a significant drive
level reduction. The 500hz filter passband center is about
750hz. That is the frequency of the audio tone when signals
peak.

That's to be expected. Receive levels are probably way down as well. DigiPan
is designed to use a wide open SSB filter so that all tones pass between the
rig and the computer sound card.
