Subject: [psk31] Garbled PSK print with good signals
I was doing a live PSK demo at a radio club meeting last Thursday evening
and was shocked that , despite good signals on 14070 , the PSK printout was
mostly garbage (about 70%) on all signals. I guessed that it might have
been due to possible noise from fluorescent lights in the meeting hall but
also was told there was a strong Aurora at the same time. Now I wonder if
the Aurora would produce poor PSK copy even on strong receive signals ?

Andrew;
what you witnessed was a first hand look at what a solar plasma
shed does to radio signals. Thursday was a bad day for any radio
functions..Was in all the news papers here as well. Am I correct fellas?

Yes, polar path signals often have phase distortion which can make PSK
copy impossible, even though the signal strength is good.

I went to the site and thought I read you have to take care of the audio in
to the soundcard yourself.
Remebering the info from peters site psk31 software author the audio must be
control. HUM.
Also, I know for sure on my icom the mic connector was NOT the way to go ,
I had to use the ACC1 jack for control by the soundcard volume
controls.....Computer. This was also where i got my 12 volta and audio in to
the soundcard. The ACC1 jack is the only connection to the computer.
This is just and opinion on my part,

HI Andy,
Yep! the single one thing that will kill PSK is Flutter, Frequency
variation, I think the Aurora is capable of creating that affect. 73 Ernie
