Subject: [psk31] Icom Acc Socket PTT/VOX
I have my 706 wired like this and audio input on the accy connection WILL NOT
trigger the VOX. The pin 11 Modulator Input is designed for AFSK with PTT
specifically to bypass the VOX and probably the COMP circuit as well.
I used a version of the circuit by VA3JDH on http://www.siliconpixels.com
under Technical Info. The error on the schematic for PTT is that pin 5 is
ground on a DB-9. Use pin 7 (RTS) for the PTT.
See http://www.loop-back.com/rs232_std.html for the pin assignments for rs232
connections.
Combine this with the info at http://www.qsl.net/wm2u/interface.html and you
can build it with opto-isolation.

I wired my 706 with the circuit described in the origional QST article and
use a COM port to drive it. All PSK31 software has the capability buit in.
It keys the xmtr beautiful. It acts just like VOX in that as soon as I
start keying the first charcter, or hit the Enter key, the xmtr is keyed.
After the CW ID at the end of my xmsn, the xmtr is unkeyed, or if I hit F5.
I see so many alternative attempts made to key the 706 that I wonder, am I
missing something here? This method seemed like the most direct and easiest
to do, rather than wiring up some sort of "switch" which I would have to
remember to close before I start typing. Or trying to work through the rigs
mic input in order to use its VOX. So, what am I doing wrong? Somebody
tell me.....

Ken,
I am using an ICOM IC-756 for PSK. You cannot trigger the PTT through
the audio input pin in the ACC connector by VOX. VOX works only for
the audio input in the front microphone connector.
