Subject: [psk31] IC751 mic connector
I've got PSK31 working well feeding the audio into the mic connector via a
RS connector on the audio lead. Now I'd like to make a switch box to save
unplugging the mike each time I want to go on PSK31. Can anyone point me
to a source of the panel mount mic connector and the designation thereof?
I know it's 8-pin DIN but searching Mouser and Digikey catalogs I've not
een able to get a definitive match.

Subject: [psk31] CM18330/C3D Sound Chip
Has anyone had any experience with theis sound chip? It is mounted on
the motherboard and functions as a soundboard should except I cannot get
it to do anything with PSK. Installing a SoundBlaster card and turning
off the onboard chip solves the problem, PSK then works great. Anyone
know any tricks to start the onboard working. Have latest drivers
installed.

That was EASY!
Did anyone hook things up to an 850?
Do I have to get any strange DIN plugs from Kenwood, or build any
transformer type level changing gadgetry??

I have been working PSK for months now and just discovered
something that may be of interest.
When you go to PSK, be sure and unplug or disconnect your
microphone.
Never gave that much thought before, but the mike element is
live all the time when plugged into or connected to the
radio. It has to be that way, otherwise VOX would not
work. So with the mike connected, it is live when you go to
transmit PSK regardless if you use PTT or VOX. Any loud
noises in the shack get transmitted over the air through the
mike.

Good point.
I have also noticed that a perfectly good PSK signal can be
made to look distorted by overdriving the input to the sound
card. In fact, overdrive anywhere in the chain between
transmitter mike input and receiver audio soundcard input
will show up as bad IMD performance.
I have also noticed that sound card audio output, even from
line output instead of speaker output, is several orders of
magnitude greater than the output of the microphone I use
for voice SSB operation. The mixer volume control does not
allow sufficient control over the audio that ultimately goes
to my microphone input. I had to use an attenuator in the
line going to the mike connection on the radio to match
normal microphone levels as viewed on a scope. Without the
attenuator, I was overdriving the microphone preamp on the
radio regardless of the mixer volume settings.

I have just completed some preliminary IMD measurements on 3 different rigs

The spectrum photos are about 35K each after compression so be patient, some
pages will have 5 photos. This is a work in progress and hopefully I will
be able to update every few days and will notify for those who might be
interested. Comments are of course welcome.

Well, that certainly is true. I have one of those dumb
Ten-Tec Omni radios that merely connect the mike from the
front panel in parallel with the phone-patch connection on
the rear panel. If its plugged in, its on the air when you
hit PTT.
