Moe-
I check my transmitted signal by monitoring the INPUT screen on WINPSK1.1
When I send either the stored macros, or direct keyboard transmission, I
see one of two different types of wave forms. Some times I see very clear,
simple superimposed wave forms. Other times I see more complex wave forms,
but with well defined envelope characteristics. The latter is more complex
than the former. I change nothing in the program, and the visualization of
the output wave forms seems to change from one transmission to another, and
seemingly randomly. I appear to be have readable signals under either
case. Would you please comment on the different wave forms?
I operate at about 10-20 watts, and use a Yaesu FT 757-GX. I have a
horizontal 20 meter half wave dipole located in my attic. My VSWR is
adjusted to 1:1, using a MFJ 969 tuner. As far as I can determine, I am
not overdriving the sound card, since I can adjust the voltage level using
a potentiometer placed between the output signal of the sound card to the
back of the FT 757. Using VOX, I just barely trip the relay.
Any comments you, or anyone else has would be most welcome.

Your use of the INPUT screen to monitor your own signal is probably not too
meaningful - especially since it bears very little relationship to what actually
goes out over the air. That display can only see what is being produced within
the soundcard. Most on-the-air problems are produced in the transceiver (usually
from too much drive. If the modulation envelope that you see is showing obvious
signs of flat topping, believe me that your own ears will recognize the raw
signal and you won't have any doubt about it.
The INPUT display was designed to allow you to set your RECEIVE Input Level.
Here is the relevant excerpt from Moe's Help File:

Once the interface is connected, the first thing to do is set your receive audio
level. Tune your radio to a loud signal or carrier. Bring up your soundcard's
Mixer program (or use the one that comes with Windows). The Mixer's RECORDER
settings are the ones to use for adjusting the Receive audio levels. Select
either the LINE or MIC IN control and set it mid way.
Click on the WinPSK Signal Display TAB labeled "Input". Adjust your recording
Mixer controls for a signal display that is about half screen size on peaks. If
the level is too high, the signal display will turn red. ...........
