This bipt106 is great for PSK31. Perhaps some of you could share
addresses of other good sites that discuss other topics. Buy, sell,
trade, technical problems, band plans, ham equipment maintenance, test
equipment, antennas, hints and kinks, downloadable HAM-related
software, EE software, etc.
For example: I want to send a QSL card to the Netherlands. Is there
any place where I can look up an address in a Netherlands Call Book?. I
only have the station's call sign.

Thanks all who informed me about Digipad & PTT. I changed DTR to RTS and all
works well in all programs.
Now I have these experiences:
Some programs work with both DTR & RTS signals and inform about (WinPSK).
Some programs also use both but don't inform (Nino's Hellschreiber, MT63).
Some programs can be set for DTR or RTS PTT (Logger).
Some programs know only RTS (Digipan).
BTW, using of RTS signal is universal solution, also can be used simple
logic with two diodes from both pins...

Please, would somone in the know summarize for the new-comers, the PSK31
softwhare available, such as:
1. Features of the program.
2. Hardware necessary to run the program (386, 486, Pentium; and what MHz.)( I
woud like too use a 386/16, if possible.)
3. Source of the softwhere, Where and how to get it., approximate cost -- or
free.
I hear such terms as Logger, mixw32, G3PLX, Digipan, WinPSK32, and maybe
others.

(and my subjective opinions)
PSKSBW ftp://det.bi.ehu.es/pub/ham/psk31/p31sbw108.zip the original (and
free) written by the bloke who invented the mode , works VERY well but has
no buffers/macro capability unless used with the "front end" package

PC's from 486 to Pentium processors . 16 bit soundcard is required for all
PSK applications.
Mix32 http://tav.kiev.ua/~nick/my_ham_soft.htm ) costs money but a free demo
is available. Getting better and works quite well but
presentation/appearance leaves a little to be desired. Has the ability to
do RTTY and other digital modes which is a great plus. Has programmable
macros/buffers and a primitive logging feature.
Digipan ftp://det.bi.ehu.es/pub/ham/psk31/digipan1.exe by the same folks
that bring you Mix32 . PSK only , has a very nice wide tuning scope that
allows the user to see almost the entire PSK band and easily pick out new
signals. Very good and FREE.
Winpsk, http://www.geocities.com/ae4jy/index.htm looked good to me, free I
think but I have not played with it much.
Logger: http://www.itis.net/golist/download.htm My vote as the best. FREE
and uses the same source code in PSK as PSKSBW. Lots of programmable
macro/buffers. Point and click operation, In addition to PSK31 has a VERY
comprehensive logging program (actually it is manly a logging products with
PSK added). Can run other digital modes but not from a sound card.
Wrtielog. http://www.contesting.com/writelog/ Costs money, good contesting
applications. Tuning scope for PSK is not as 'pretty" as others but does
the job. Not as intuitive as Logger, Mix32, to set up.

They all require a 486 or higher and a 16 bit sound card of any variety.
I don't know if they would run on a 386/16. I doubt it. It doesn't cost
anything to download one and try. You can try the software without
any interface.
Personal opinions: Digipan is the easiest to use. MixW32 has other
modes including CW and RTTY, and is the best contesting program.
Logger and PSK31SBW are similar and are the comparison standards
except Logger is a logging program with build in PSK31. WinPsk
has some advanced features and a better display but lacks some
of the features of some of the others. It's different, and it is my
personal favorite. I have all of them.

This addresses only part of your question but I think that Andy,
KB2EOQ, has provide a nice summary of where to look for software.
Trying to run a soundcard based version of any of the PSK programs
with a 368/16 is kind of analogous to trying to pull a 10 ton
trailer with a 1 HP lawn mower. It may be possible with one of the
DOS based programs or hardware TNC's that support PSK31 to get
away with that. But in general, a 486/66 with 32MB of memory is
pretty much minimal for any of the windows based software.
Many people are almost giving away 486/66's because even those are
outdated and most have been assigned to door stop duty or are
collecting dust in some storage room. You can get way with using
old ham gear for decades but a PC more than 5 years old is pretty
much out of it.
You can buy a brand new 700MHz Pentium III for under $1500. Or, If
that's a little steep, one of the Celron based machines designed
for Web access can be purchased in the 6 to 8 hundred dollar
range. Even one of those will way outstrip a 486/66. But, at
minimum, go to garage sales and flea markets, watch the bulletin
boards in the entry ways to super markets, and watch the
classified adds in your local newspaper. I'll bet you can pick up
a working 486/66 for under $100. Though it may be slow, you'll at
least be able to run most of the software.

I came across a great program,it is RTTY and PSK, it is a shareware.
I think that it is the best one I have seen. It can be found at
<dxzone.com> scroll down to software and click on Packet & Digital.
It is very easy to use, one does not have to tune
the radio to the signal, just click on the signal and the program will track
it.

I believe this to be mis-leading (that is, the interpretation of the sound card
specs). I believe that all that means is that if you have a 10 k load on that
output jack, then it is capable of delivering 0.8 volts. That would not be an
indication of its output impedance. The output impedance would have to be
measured by loading the output of a device to the point where the output voltage
is one half of that when the load is an open circuit. This is known as its
Thevenin equivalent source resistance. The specification that you have quoted
above is entirely different and not relevant to the true output impedance of the
device.
As I have stated in my earlier posts, the output impedances of the sound card
will generally be quite low, and, in particular, they will be low enough that
any load of a few thousand ohms could be considered no load at all.
