Subject: [psk31] Finally everything is working -QRP STYLE
I finally got my PSK31 station on the Air, thanks to many of you on the list
especially W5YR and WM2U. I was utterly amazed tonight as I had a Qso with
K9WEY in Elgin, IL.
My main antenna, a 500 foot loop, is down for maintenance, and my secondary
antenna is up. The secondary antenna.. believe it or not is an indoor
antenna. I made it in about 1 1/2 hours..Its an indoor loop positioned
around the upper ceiling of my apartment with stick-clips, sort of like
push-pins. It is fed with 300 ohm rad shack twin lead...and is super-cheesy.
The wire is actually like 30 gauge magnet wire..Its like thread !! Well I
was listening to K9WEY call CQ and heard his signal pretty well. Being that
I was trapped in my
"antenna hell" I decided to answer with my 35 watts..on 20 meters..hoping
that my antenna wire would not vaporize. As Emeril says... "BAM !!"
Back came Danny's signal...he gave me a 579. After typing for awhile...I
reduced my pwr down to 20 watts...then down to 10 watts...then down to 5
watts..then DOWN TO 2 WATTS!! I couldn't believe it... Here Danny was in
Elgin, IL copying my 2 watt signal...Not bad for 2 watts and 750 miles...and
a joke for an antenna. Wow ! what a rush. I don't know about you...but I
am hooked. Thanks to everyone who helped me be a success.
