Hi Bob and All,
With the advent of DigiPan, it sort of eclipsed WinPSK. Both of these
are examples of new, fine programs which advance the state of the art
in PSK31 operating, particularity for new operators.

Subject: [psk31] having a heck of a time
Hi.. I am running PSK31sb and Digipan.. I have figured out how to connect
the soundcard to the rig via the mic connector,for transmit but I am trying
desperately to get the rig to key automatically..I have built both circuits
in both 'help' files in PSK31sb and Digipan. Both did not work.. I even
got a SPST reed relay from Radio Shack for $3, and it is not working
either.. I am running a Gateway 133Mhz Computer with a 9 pin Port. From
both of the programs help files it says to use either Pin 4(orange) or Pin
7(Blue). Those are the "hot" pins with 12volts on them..(to key the relay)
The Ground is either the shield of the cable or the 'yellow' wire. My
problem is that on transmit to key the relay I am receiving 11.38 Volts,, no
problems.. but on RECEIVE..the voltage on the serial cable is MINUS 10.38
VOLTS, which is still keying the relay.. I have tested the rest of the pins
on the cables and found nothing wrong.. most of them register in the
Millivolt range. Is there a way to configure the Com 4 port that I am not
aware of.. I am stumped.. Any suggestions or ideas. The rig I am running
is a Yaesu FT840. "73" Greg

I noticed in PSK31sb, there is a button for sending your callsign, In
Digipan I have not found the same. Do you have to send your callsign every
10 minutes by hand or may you just sign your call from within the
program(s) every ten minutes? In other words...can you send the callsign in
the PSK code or do you have to use normal cw..

Several on the list and elsewhere have sent me my mistake.. When hooking up
the 12 volt relay, so that the program should key the relay allowing my
signal to go out the ether...
I forgot to add a diode is series with the positive wire to the relay coil..

Either way. You are not required to use CW. PSK31 is fine for ID.

You should use a 2N2222 for keying the relay. Hook pin 4 and pin 7
through two diodes, 1N34 or any small signal diode, and then through a
10K resistor to the base. The cathode of the diode should be toward
the transistor. Hook up +12 volts to one side of the relay and the other
side of the relay to the collector. Connect the emitter to ground.
The relay will key if either pin 4 or pin 7 goes to + 11.38 volts, and will
open
when both go to -10,38 volts.
There's a schematic in May 99 QST, for a keying circuit using either pin 4
or pin 7.

Subject: [psk31] PSK on 2 meter FM
There have been several inquiries about using PSK on 2 meter FM. This is a
great method of demonstrating PSK to a HAM club or other small group. PSK
works great on 2 meters with handhelds. The bandwidth IS that of FM voice,
but it does work well without requireing moving a HF rig and it's antenna.

In the U.S. yes, you can transmit your call sign
in PSK mode. No requirment for the CW ID.

Greg,
You can't key the relay directly from the output
of the serial port. You are very likely to destroy
your computer because it is not designed to handle
the current levels needed by the relay coil. What
you need is a transistor circuit to drive the
relay or the rig's keying circuit directly. Then
the serial port only has to supply a small amount
of base current for the transistor.
