I downloaded the program and actually installed later, after the first
reports started coming in. I am impressed.

I am not sure, yet, whether I will shift over from Logger- my first
impression is not- just keep on with Logger- which has lots to praise,
along with the original PSK31.

However- (there is always a "however")- the new program has LOTS of
features that can help other aspects of operating. THe first thing I did
was to tune WWVH and check out the spread- this gives a good check of the
program, and, of great importance- the radio. I found that I could easily
see the characteristics of the pass-band of the radio- and of the filters-
DSP, etc. (my DSP seems to be off-center)

After this- I went up- to a "dead" band- with some noise, and could play
with the filtering at great length- this thing can be used as a "training
ground" for filtering and rejection- you can SEE what is happening. Later-
on a live band- I could see the automatic heterodyne rejection of the
radio- the speed was impressive/

In short- if I never use it to communicate- it is worth all the thanks and
praise I can offer.

Thanks, guys- very well done.

Wow...my memory must really be bad. I operated from K5TYP most of a
year on RTTY and don't remember having to do the CWID thing in 65/66.
Maybe we didn't know better, or maybe we did it and I just don't
remember. Can't argue with the text!

As the Subject says, "Oops!"

Someone has emailed me privately to remind me that RS-13's 15m uplink is in
the U.S. phone band, where digital signals are not permitted.

Bearing that in mind, PSK sounds like a no-no on RS-13, at least for U.S.
hams. Hellschreiber's legality there is ambiguous (you could call Hell a
fax mode), but since the FCC has decided to treat it as a narrowband
digital mode for regulatory purposes, maybe that's not allowed either. Now
of course, you could use the 2m uplink quite legally, but the Doppler up
there is a lot higher, which is why I mentioned Mode K in the first place.

I'll be checking this out further, but for now I must withdraw my advice to
try PSK31 on RS-13, with apologies.

73 from KD7MW, wiping the egg from his face...
