Subject: [psk31] PSK31SBW and IBM THINKPAD 701C
I am trying to use PSK31for sound blaster v 1.08 on an IBM thinkpad 701C
which has a sound card built in .No problem to receive however to send a
signal it in another story .The signal coming out from the output is very
fin mixed with noise .If i increase the output level the noise increase but
not the 1000 hz signal .With the same laptop i am using an RTTY program
using the sound card to receive and transmit without any problem (the one
written by G0VTQ) .did some body have the same problem or an idea to solve
it

Subject: [psk31] DC isolation between sound card and rig
Hi, I wonder what form of dc isolation do you use between your rigs and
sound card, if any? I use a couple of valve/speaker transformers which have
really to much of a step down ratio, but they do work. I have just given a
talk on PSK and the Logger program to our local Ham Club which has sparked
off a lot of interest in PSK. They are asking me where they can buy the
correct type of transformers. On one of the websites they recomend Radio
Shack ones but here in our town there equivalent Tandy's are as much use as
a chocolate frog! Maplins don't have anything like a 1:1 ratio transformer.
I tried a transistor driver transformer out of a old radio and I struggled
to get much audio accross it. One other thought I had, many years ago I made
an interface between my BBC Computer and a TV making it into a RGB monitor
using 6N137 opto isolators, I wonder if they would work with audio? I think
givening this talk has put a noose around my neck HI so please help release

let me know, and I'll give you some part numbers. Any 1:1 or a 1:3
should work, even though it's not so small. A solid state amp to
speaker may not have such a large turns ratio, so you might be able
to salvage something from an old transistor radio. An old video
transformer may work too; try it and see. Measure the voltage on each
side using a DMM on the AC scale, with the appropriate load on it.

a stereo (dual) one made epecially for using a portable CD with
a car radio, to eliminate generator whine. It's not mounted, but comes
with cables on both sides with RCA plugs on them. It's pricier; ~ $15
vice $2 for the PC board one. I got it from Radio Shack too. Check a
store that sells Automobile CD players. Actually, right now I am using
one of the stereo transformers between my K2 transceiver and
DSP-59+, and the other one between the 59+ and the computer.
Although the hum was not as severe as between the computer
and the transceiver mike input, it was there, and the isolation transformer
took care of that problem too.
