Thanks George it works. I logged my first RX of a PSK31 call
it was betweenAgnes F5EWD and Andy SP2FHS at around 1305 UTC Report was good
but hard to determine as the computer did the work for me. I hope these two
hams do not mind me having a listen in but it made my weekend as yesterday i
RXed my first RTTY and CW.

Thanks a lot for this help and I will keep an ear out on 20mx in the future.
73's for now but I will try to keep in touch with the group and report my
progress.

AFC won't tune that far. It only works a few hertz without having
something readable to pull from.

The waterfall display is approximately 490 hertz wide. You can tune to
anything that shows up in that display by clicking on the middle of the
vertical stripe of the signal you want to print. When you click on the
stripe, it will move that signal to the middle of the waterfall and
change the audio frequency that the software is concentrating on to that
of the signal you clicked on. You will see the RX FREQ HZ change when
you click on a signal.

If you have trouble getting the stripe centered in the waterfall, just
use the left/right arrows to move it around and get it centered that
way. AFC will help hold it centered, once you get it close enough to
print.

That's wonderful, Iain! Sure glad that you stuck with it and had success.

I am sure that Agnes and Andy do not mind you copying their QSO.

Keep up the good work. My younger son got his Amateur Extra license
(K5SR) at age 14 while I was an "old timer" of 16 when I was first
licensed in 1946. You are starting a wonderful hobby that will provide
much joy and satisfaction for many years to some. Welcome!

Greetings to All-Listers ,

I had a sweep of the archives but didn't find any answers to this
question , at least that applied to my enquiry.

What would listers on limited budgets be *successfully* using for
PSK31 in the way of "older" transceivers ??

My current equipment is great for SSB & CW , but too old for PSK31
etc, so would like to aim at an upgrade that would allow me to enjoy this
mode . So what I'm thinking is what slightly older generation solid state
rigs are suitable...... IE: TS430s , TS130s, FT757/747, ??? .

The kind of feedback I'm looking for is from anyone using what
they would consider "older technology" rigs with success.

Can't afford an immediate upgrade but at least if I have the facts
I know what to aim for , and know I'm not deluding myself. I have a couple
of computers , both 486's , but believe these would be OK as well. One is
running on Windows 3.11 and the other Linux Debian.

Thanks in advance , please no flames , but if you can help it will
be appreciated.

        73 de Paul VK4XD.

I am using an old Icom 725 with great success on PSK31. I don't now about
your part of the world, but an IC725 can be picked up for about 300 ukp over
here. It won't allow narrow filters on ssb etc., but I have never really
found that to be much of a disadvantage.

Hi Paul,

I have used both a Kenwood TS-820 and an ICOM-730
with great success. After letting the 820 warm up
a bit, it is pretty stable... The 730 is like a
xtal rig! Good warbling to you and 73
