I'm using an even older rig than the ones you mention - a TS180 which works
real fine.

Although the CW xtal filter could not normally be used when in the SSB mode,
I have installed a mod using small relays to select either the SSB or CW filter
in either mode.

Another minor problem was a difference of about 17Hz between TX & RX
frequencies. This was cured via a outboard RIT unit I had already installed for
CW (the normal RIT is +/-3.5kHz, the outboard RIT is +/- 650Hz) - an additional
resistor divider network using a multi-turn trimpot can now be switched in when
needed to give exactly +17Hz on RX for PSK.

Also the PC used for PSK is only a 486/100 using Psk31sbw/Pskgnr/Psklog
progammes simultaneously does not seem to slow things down.

Good luck es 73

Hi,
I have been using an old 1977 Kenwood TS520S with the very stable remote VFO.
No problems. Tune very slow and it works. Hundreds of psk contacts in the log.

I am using a TS520S. Works like a charm. I have used it for years on RTTY.
What makes you think that your current equipment wont work for PSK31 ??

I would think that If it works for SSB it should work for PSK31.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents. My TS830S works fine for PSK as long as I
let it warm up for about a half hour and make sure the speech proc is off.

Psk works better with a very stable vfo, but you can work around one that
drifts a bit. I leave "net" and "afc" on, that way the software (psk31sbw)
can compensate in part for a little drift in frequency.

I also use a TS830 S for PSK31 with no significant problems. I have the
external VFO which does not have noticeable warm-up drift as there are
no tubes in the unit.
I did go through the bulletins posted on the Kenwood Web-site which
improved the main radio so that it runs PSK31 quite well, but I stay
with the VFO for PSK31 ( and other computer related modes ) because it
is located next to the computer.
My settings for the speech processor are quite mild and do not seem to
have any noticeable effect on my signal quality, probably because in
PSK31 we do not drive the transmitter very hard.
Some years ago I installed a pair of the SSB filters made by Fox Tango
- - now International Radio & Computer, Inc. of( I think )Fort Pierce,
