Hi Larry,
That's right. The century is divided into decades and the last
decade, the nineties, includes 2000 but not 1990. Hmmm. Maybe not. :-)

re: the mellinium PSK31 contest
Just my opinion and observation. For contests why not limit the xmit power
in the rules to say 100-200 watts and "CLEAN" signal.. The first PSK
contest I tried had three stations that were wiping out the band on 20. Two
of these were foriegn and one was US. They were all coming in here at 10-20
over s-9 and that was with them tuned way off freq. with my reciever . I
could hardly hear anyone else. Then when I did make a contact 3/4 of the
time one of these stations would come on up the band and wipe out the one
I was trying to get a report from. It took 5-10 repeats quite a few times
before the missing part of the report could be obtained. I worked for
several hours but after seeing the contact number in thier report I gave up
as there was no way to even begin to catch up to them. I guess thier
operating stradegy was to drown out everyone else so that only they could
be heard assuring themselves a high contact rate. If you cant hear anyone
else you cant work them. I have not worked or plan on working anymore
contests because of this. They sort of ruin the fun for others. Just my
opinion. :-)

Hi to you in the group. I hear psk31 is a good mode and as iam at the moment
only RXing 'cos i am studieing for the RAE in the UK. I thought it would be
good to get the G3PLX PSK31 for Sound Cards software and give it a go. I
found to my dismay that the receivers I was using (a Radio Shack DX 394)
only tuned to say 14.0701 mhz and not to the proposed freqs for PSK31 which
are ones like 14.070150. This freq is way out of my reach and i feel i am
missing out. If you can suggest anything to help me (without buying a new
receiver) then I would be most grateful.

Don't give up, Iain. Tune your receiver to the nearest frequency you can
for a PSK31 station and let the AFC feature of the G3PLX feature take
care of the fine tuning. Your radio evidently only tunes in 100 Hz
increments, but that might be close enough in some cases for the program
AFC to do the rest. Be sure to check the AFC box in the program to
implement this action. You will find PSK31 operations at all frequencies
from about 14,068 KHz to as high as 14,075 KHz. Just tune as close as you
can and then see if the program can do the rest.

Good luck.

On my TS 440SAT, I am able to select my narrow 500 Hz CW filter while in
USB or LSB mode.
