Subject: [psk31] Announcing: The Millennium PSK31 Contest
Announcing: The Millenium PSK31 Contest sponsored by the Chautauqua Contest
Club.
Since the Autumn CCCC PSK31 contest was so successful ,with participants
from 100 countries, we decided to try a millennium contest. Hopefully any
end of century hangovers will have dissipated. To make scoring easier than
the last contest, we have "stolen" the scoring format from CQ's CQ World
Wide RTTY Contest. CQ's format is supported by most contest software.
Objective: For amateurs around the world to contact other amateurs in as
many CQ Zones and countries as possible using the PSK31 Mode
Contest Period: 1200 UTC January 1 2000 to 1200 UTC January 2, 2000
Note: The total contest period is 24 hours. All stations may operate the
entire 24 hour period; there are no required off time periods for any
entries. Note the start and end times are 1200 UTC (noon GMT)
Operator Classes
**************************
Power classifications LP =. Low Power 30 watts or less
HP = High Power 31-100 watts
Note : No operation over 100 watts is allowed.
1. Single Operator, All Band LP
2. Single Operator, All Band HP
3. Single operator , Single band. LP
4. Single Operator, Single band HP
Note:
Only one (1) transmitter and one (1) band permitted during the same time
period (defined as ten [10] minutes). Once the station has begun operation
on a given band, it must stay on that band for 10 minutes; listening time
counts as operating time.
Modes: PSK31 ONLY.
Bands: 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters (follow band plan for PSK31 operation
as suggested by http://aintel.bi.ehu.es/frecuencies.html spread out from
bottom edge of the IARU RTTY bandplan.
Valid Contacts: A given station may be contacted only once per band
.Additional contacts are allowed with the same station on each of the other
bands as well.
Exchange: Stations within the 48 continental United States and the 13
Canadian areas must transmit RST, State or VE area, and CQ Zone number. All
other stations must transmit RST and CQ Zone number.
Countries: The ARRL and WAE country lists will be used.
Note: The USA and Canada count as country multipliers. Example: The first US
State and Canadian area you work not only count as a multiplier for the
state or area, but also count as a country multiplier for each band.
QSO Points: One (1) QSO point for contacts within your own country. Two (2)
QSO points for contacts outside your own country but within your own
continent. Three (3) QSO points for contacts outside your own continent.
Multiplier Points: One (1) multiplier point for each US state (48) and each
Canadian area (13) on each band. One (1) multiplier point for each DX
country in the ARRL and/or WAE lists on each band. Note: KL7 and KH6 are
country multipliers only and not state multipliers. One (1) multiplier point
for each CQ Zone worked on each band. Maximum of 40 Zones per band.
Note: Canadian areas are VO1, VO2, VE1 NB, VE1 NS, VE1 PEI, VE2, VE3, VE4,
VE5, VE6, VE7, VE8 NWT, and VY Yukon.
Final Score: Total QSO points times the total multipliers equals the total
claimed score.
Contest entries and logging instructions: CQ WW RTTY DX scoring format is to
be used . Those using computerized contest applications may find this
format in Writelog, CT, and other popular contest software.
1. Times in UTC.
2. All sent and received exchanges are to be logged (callsign, RST, Zone,
country, State/VE, points claimed).
3. Indicate State/VE area, Zone, and Country Multiplier only the first time
they are worked on each band.
4. Use a separate log sheet for each band.
5. A check list of duplicate contacts for each band (dupe sheet). Logs must
be checked for duplicate contacts, correct QSO points, and multipliers.
Submitted logs must show duplicate contacts clearly marked.
6. A multiplier check sheet for each band.
7. An overall summary sheet showing total QSOs, Points, Zones, Countries,
and States/VE areas worked.
8. Each entry must be accompanied by a signed declaration that all contest
rules and regulations for amateur radio in the country of operation have
been observed.
9. Send logs to PSK Millennium Contest c/o Andrew O'Brien , KB2EOQ, 9082
Concord Drive, Fredonia, New York, 14063 USA.
Email logs in ASCII format WITH CALLSIGN (e.g KB2EOQ.sum , KB2EOQ.20,
KB2EOQ.all) to obrienaj@netsync.net . Where ASCII format is not possible,
logs in ADIF format (.adi) will be accepted. No other format.
Awards: Winner Certificates suitable for framing to top entrant in each
category per continent. PSK31 Century Certificates to any entrant who works
100 or more DXCC countries in the contest.
Deadline: All entries must be received by February 15, 2000.

Subject: [psk31] Linux PSK
Hi,
For anyone looking for a PSK program for Linux, there is twpsk.
I've added a window interface to psk31lx (c) by Hansi, DL9RDZ.
It's in beta testing right now, and all features have not been
implemented yet, but it is stable and useable. Any comments
would be appreciated.
Some of the features of the current version, 0.6, are:
- variable squelch.
- built-in mixer controls for the soundcard.
- phase scope.
- click to tune.
- multi mode display - choice of two modes - waterfall or spectrum
analyzer,
and three bandwidths.
FTP it from here right now - metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming/
But should soon should be here - metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/ham/
As always, read the README!
Enjoy it - 73,

Ain't it the truth? The media and everybody else has it that this New Years
is the beginning of the millennium...not the beginning of the last year of
the millennium...I try to explain it to folks by saying that they weren't
born 1 year old...but they still don't get it.

Larry,
I agree, and I am sure Andy will pull off the contest. Maybe he is prepared
for the new Millennium since his posting is dated 22 January 2000 :-)
