Subject: [psk31] Re ur needed info!!!

Hi Nick,
    In your message dated 10/5/99:

Yes. We do have a problem with the server. WE STILL HAVE A
PROBLEM WITH THE SERVER. and we are working very hard to find an answer.
We detected the 'server' problem on 10/3/99 and have been very
busy talking to the two server sys op's concerned. At this point Bill, NY2U
put an emergency posting on the reflectors explaining that we were having a
problem and to please post or repots your Rumble scores to the Reflector.
This will be corrected as soon as possible although unfortunately too late
for this Rumble. I am not sure where you are getting your Rules
"extractions" from but please check out http://www.qsl.net/wm2u/rumble.html
as the corrections were posted last SUNDAY.
Why not use the traditional SMTP? yes! you are probably right
Nick. We, at TARA have this vision of 'on line Score Submission' as being
the next step in Contest evolution. The vision, when complete would make it
easier for the user to submit scores. It would take out all the guess work
of Rules Interpretation since filling in the "little boxes" should be easy.
Then from this data the online Form would calculate the score, (as it does
currently) then the server submits the Form to an Official e-mail address.
That is as far as we have got with this vision but we want to continue with
this such that the received data from all these standard forms gets
automatically entered into a database (Access) or Spread Sheet (Excel) If
you think of this it cuts down on a lot of paper work, log checking, score
correlation, and winners calculation as well as enabling the Sponsors (TARA)
to instantly post the collected scores for Contester review.
So you see Nick, I don't think you are "wasting your time"
retyping data that your contest software produced, because you need that
information during the contest. The score calculation is where it belongs-
in the hands of the Sponsors! This way any changes are effected easily and
the Contest can change and flow with PSK Contesters demands and needs. For
instance we are looking into a YL award for the next Rumble and if you
remember the Club Challenge Award was realized far too late to get changes
into the contest software scoring.

      In your message dated 10/6/99:

Yes, the Score Submission Form does use Jave Script. but after
reading the above 'vision' information I cannot achieve it any other way.
I will of course look into taking the JavaScript out for the next contest.
My problem, Nick, is I have the 'vision' but not the brains to
write the necessary code. I am not a software writer and have struggled to
get this far by squeezing out snippets of need code and information off the
Internet, I have bought books on JScript, JavaScript and Perl ( although
these may as well be written in Chinese as far as I am concerned), and have
'talked to numerous guru's to get this far. Nick, I would appreciate your
help in completing this project as it appears you might be quite
knowledgeable on the code. If you will please e-mail me as I feel we might
make quite a good team eh!
The 'rules confusion problem' was brought to our attention by
Sunday by Chris, 4X1RF and we posted the following onto both the US and
European PSK Reflectors:

"Many thanks Chris for pointing out the scoring error on the
TARA PSK31 Score Submission Form. I must apologize for the confusion. I did
not spot the error and have corrected the online form.
The Multipliers are counted one per band. Although the Rules
showed the correct scoring as '..on each band..' the 'Score Submission Form'
showed limit of 10. This was my error and should have read "10 per band MAX"
. Your understanding of this is therefore correct Nick. You can have "10W +
14VE + 10JA + 10VK on each band."

The DX mults are the same thing.
Re counting your own country as a Mult... Yep! you are again
correct when you say " I suppose that my own DXCC (country) should be
counted as DXCC (DX) multiplier if I have 'work another station' inside my
country." ... and ONLY if you work another station in your own country!
Sorry for the length of this e-mail but you needed at least this
explanation.
Oh! if there are any other Code Guru's out there that would like
to take up this challenging work please come and join us, 73 Ernie
