Subject: [psk31] PSK31 bandplans (again)

Although it's true that the three regional IARU organisations each
adopt their own bandplans, in the case of 14MHz all three regional
plans are the same, namely:
14000-14070 CW only
14060-14112 CW and digital (except for 14099-14101 beacons)
14112-14350 CW and SSB
Therefore if we have any respect for the IARU and common consensus,
we should ONLY be considering places for PSK31 within the 14070-14112
region. 14115-14135 as suggested by the Rumble promoters is outside
the IARU bandplan.
The question therefore arises as to which part of the 14070-14112
region we should use for PSK31. The IARU bandplan does contain a
footnote which talks about AX25 operation in the 14089-14099 region,
and a footnote to the effect that "mailboxes and forwarding" takes
place between 14101 and 14112. This means that over HALF the sub-band
is allocated by IARU to unattended systems that don't listen.
One-to-one live contacts are likely to experience interference in
these parts of the sub-band. We are left with 14070-14089. As most
people know, I chose 14070 initially because it was at one end of the
band, and it has been there ever since. I have always suggested that
we stay down here simply because that's where we are now, and expand
upwards as we fill up the spectrum. I still say this is the best
idea. If we want to make some space for ourselves in this spot, we
need to target the "mailbox and forwarding" fans that are giving us
trouble here and encourage them to use the 14101-14112 region where
they won't get trouble from us. There is no justification for
unattended systems occupying 14089-14112 and ALSO using 14070-14075
and ALSO encroaching on the CW section, especially when they
represent only a small minority of the users of the digital sub-band
as a whole.

Subject: [psk31] 756 filter problem
Hi, I sent the info about putting the cw filter in the ssb position with the
simple commands before trying it out on air. I found as Don has that when
switching the filter in the signal disappears. Its there in the LSB
position.
It can be found in USB if you adjust the PBT to the narrowest setting, but
the signal is greatly reduced. Bob seems to have cracked it going by his
remarks maybe he can tells us what we are missing. 73 Pete G3KNU

Subject: [psk31] PSK31 and Morse Code transmissions from PI4AA. CORRECTED
VERSION
Since a few weeks, PI4AA, the clubstation of the "VERON", the National
Society for Amateur Radio in the Netherlands, is transmitting a weekly
bulletin on PSK31 together with Morse Code exercises via the same
transmitter, so combining the most modern and most ancient amateur mode!
Transmissions on every Friday evening.
Timings 1830 - 1845 UTC (summer) or 1930 - 1945 UTC (winter)
(And NOT 2030 - 2045 UTC (summer)
As these transmissions are under test, timings may change in the future!
Frequency: 3603 kHz (LSB)
(PSK tone 1000 Hz, CW tone 400 Hz)
Technical setup:
The PSK31 bulletin and the Morse Code are recorded earlier on a SONY
Minidisc (digital recording), and replayed later.
Transmitter: Yaesu FT 840
Linear: Heathkit SB 220 (on 400 W output in a horizontal dipole)
Good reception reports, both for PSK31 and Morse Code were received from
all over the Netherlands. As we are very interested in the propagation to
the
rest of Europe, reception reports and comments are very welcome.

Subject: [psk31] Contesting Software, WriteLog
A few months ago I requested info on contesting
software for use with an Omni V. One overwhelming
response was WriteLog almost 5 to 1. Well I just gor
Version 10 for Windows and not only does it have
excellent RTTY support but they ADDED PSK-31 support
that is fantastic. The Writelog tuning indicator is
great and the whole program functions seamlessly with
the Omni V. They are also working on a souped up
version for the Pegasus that will have some great
features. Thanks to everyone that recommended it and
for those guys on the PSK-31 reflector check it out.
