Subject: [psk31] FT1000 and PCI SB64 soundcard
Have been away from PSK a couple of months but now have a problem.
Anyone come across the following - FT1000 works OK, computer works OK.
Finish CW QSO, log QSO on computer using Turbolog and exit from same. Crank
up PSK31, suddenly rig not using its own speaker or external speaker, only
computer speakers. Even worse, switch off computer and all sound gone from
rig.
Anyone any bright ideas - has PSK somehow refused to let go of soundcard or
is it rig?

You can download Logger V6.09 at:

You can download the full version or the upgrade.
If you download the upgrade please rename Logger.exe and PSK31.exe to
Logger.old and PSK31.old. If you have any troubles with the latest version
you can always rename the older files back to exe and delete the newer ones.
I did not give it a thorough check as I have been too busy fooling with the
psk contest. Please note the db reading in the waterfall now. The higher the
db reading the cleaner the signal you are copying is. 20-25db is nice. I
noticed wide signals with readings around 10db. That is not too good. Please
notify those stations and be polite.

and tried to unzip it using WINZIP and PKUNZIP
and both tell me that 609LOG.ZIP has ERRORS.
Would love to try this program out just once.

Subject: [psk31] PSKGNR and Contest
Operating casually in the contest I noticed a few things that will crop up
in the next release of PSKGNR (I'm already testing them):
1) ADIF Logging incorrectly records calls with zero in them
2) A way to repeat the last transmission verbatim
3) Click on the log's right pane to select a field
4) Persistent serial numbers.
Any other ideas, pass them along.

Subject: [psk31] Logger V6.09 in PSK31 comments
Hi,
I gave Logger V6.09 a good test running it in the psk contest.
This is what I noticed.
When adding/changing/defining a macro the computer did not hangup.
$eof$ seems to work fine now when defining new macros.
The biggest PROBLEM found is......................
If you lock on with the "afc" the xmit frequency does not follow even though
the "net" box is checked. Therefore you really can't use the "afc" which is a
problem.
Did not notice this in version 6.08d unless I overlooked it.
The evaluation of the waterfall/signal quality is very good with some
exceptions in which Peter G3PLX describes in his program. K4CY added this
feature to V6.09.

The below is from Peters help screen in PSK31sbw. Please read it.

To transmit PSK31 correctly, the transmitter must be operated with good
linearity, just like an SSB transmission. In the past with RTTY it has not
been necessary for the transmitter to be linear. This has meant than some
newcomers to PSK31 have not found it easy to set up the transmitter. This
program has a feature which shows the linearity of the received signal, so it
is easy to report the quality of the signal to the distant operator.
The quality readout appears in the middle of the phase scope circle when the
signal is idling. It is a measure, in dB, of the level of the first pair of
unwanted sidebands (at +/-46Hz from the centre-frequency) compared to the
main pair of wanted sidebands (at +/-15Hz). The readout appears only when the
signal is idling, that is, when the emission is actually the same two-tone
signal that is used for checking the quality of SSB transmitters. In fact the
dB figure in the quality readout is the same as the third-order
intermodulation performance figure given for SSB transmitters.
To give a PSK31 signal quality report, wait until the signal is idling, or
ask the distant station to leave a pause so that you can get a reading, then
tell him the dB figure on your next transmission. Of course, if he is also
using PSK31SBW (version 1.08 or later), you can leave a pause in your
transmission and ask the distant operator to give you a report.
Warnings
There are some times when this readout will give a false reading:
1. If there is another signal very close in frequency, it may be close
enough to affect the readout even if it does not affect the wanted signal
itself.
2. A very weak signal may give a low quality reading if the unwanted
sidebands are below the band noise.
3. Remember that a bad quality reading could also be caused by distortion in
your own receiver. For example, fast AGC can sometimes cause distortion of
the received signal, and sometimes the speaker output may be poor quality but
the aux. output is better. A poor quality readout on all signals might be a
clue that there is a problem in the receiver which could make strong signals
on the band look like they are splattering.
Quality guide
The higher the dB figure the better the quality. Higher dB figures mean less
interference. A normal SSB transmitter can give better than 25dB. If you get
a report worse than this, there is probably something wrong. Some not-so-good
transmitters may only give 20dB at full power and so it may be necessary to
run lower power to get a better signal. A figure worse than 20dB usually
means that the transmitter is overdriven from the soundcard. 10dB is the
readout you would get by feeding square-waves to the transmitter instead of
sinewaves. If it's worse than 10dB then the transmitter is being
pulse-modulated.

I know that this is NOT a Logger list and some problems should be posted
there. Many users on this PSK list do use that software and this is also the
place for those problems related to psk only and NOT for bugs in the logging
program which should go only to the Logger list.

Hi,
I downloaded the upgrade for V6.09 and installed with NO problems. If you
downloaded the full version and get error messages try to delete and
reinstall. If that does not work download it a few times more and try again.
I have had problems in past versions but was able to get them all working.
