Hi Gang,
Someone had mentioned that they had no printout on rtty.
The printout is excellent.
Assuming your hookup and soundcard adjustments are correct.....
1 > Click on Butterfly
2 > Select Spectrum
3 > Click on box SHOW AVG
4 > Click on box THICK LINE ( will be a thick blue line in the spectrum)
5 > Press OK
6 > Set mode to RTTY
7 > Tune receiver for a rtty signal
8 > You should see 2 peaks on the spectrum display. ( Mark/Space )
The thick blue lines make it easier to tune in
9 > Move the cursor to the center of both peaks and click.
10> You should see 3 arrows above the 2 peaks.
11> Click on the center arrow to move the 3 arrows closer, where the left
arrow is
above the left peak and the right arrow is above the right peak.
Obviously the
center arrow should be in the center of both.
12> Voila, you should now have a rtty printout.

Hope I did not miss anything
This is the way I would love to see Doc files.
See ya all on psk or rtty

AND.. I think the horizonal tuning indicator is easier for me to use... once

Hello Peter (Ola Peter)

Before I ask my Question, let me give some Background.
The Group I belong to is Comprised mainly (95%) of Amateur
Radio volunteers. We receive no income, but as with Amateur
Radio, pass messages of Morale and Welfare nature, and in
emergencies Logistic information used to help emergency planners
and those giving aid an idea where to start. We do this in a fashion
similar to that of ARES. This group is called MARS. It stands for
Military AFFILIATED Radio System. The 5% of personnel who are not
Hams are mainly OFF air support staff (with two exceptions, and one
of those just recently passed her exam and is waiting for the Call
to be issued and sent to her.
This having been said, as the Public Relations Officer for the
ARMY MARS group for Oregon, I ask for permission to utilize this very
impressive software on Digital Mode for our Messaging. We receive no
commercial gain, nor do we charge for the reception or transmittal of
any of our messages to and from the Servicemen and women stationed
overseas and their friends and family back home. We also do not charge
for emergency operations which we do hand in hand with ARES, NTS and
other Amateur radio based communications services.
PSK31 has the very uncanny ability to pick up signals that are
not audibly detectable from background hiss. Only Clover shares this
'characteristic', but the necessary hardware for Clover is extremely
cost prohibitive for a group of volunteers, mostly retired folks, who
do not have gads of money laying around. The main difference between
our group and any other Amateur Radio Operator is that we regularly
train, (Again without recompense), for handling these pieces of traffic,
and the situations and hardships that may be faced trying to deliver
them.
And the fact that we have been authorized by congress and the Military
to use frequencies just above and just below the ham bands.
I know from my time in Germany, as a member of the Army's Military
Police, just how fantastic it is to send a message to home, and on
occasion
do a phone patch to home when you have little or no money with you, and
not
have to worry about paying for it. (1981-1987).
PSK31 with very little adjustment, if any, could be very helpful
in continuing this tradition of volunteer service to those who serve, by
allowing signals that might otherwise be lost, or unable to be passed,
to go through. For additional Information, please visit the MARS main
page for US ARMY MARS at http://www.usasc.army.mil/mars/ there are links
\
there to the US NAVY/Marine Corps and US Air Force Pages as well. Or you
may wish to visit the Oregon Army MARS webpage, which has a link to the
Main Army MARS site as well. http://www.oregonarmymars.org/index.html or
view the message collection page
http://www.oregonarmymars.org/MARSGATE.html . It
is my fervent hope that after you get this message and visit at least one
of the above websites, you will answer in the affirmative to allowing use
of this program on MARS frequencies, since Almost all On-Air MARS members
are indeed
also HAMS. It would be as great a gesture as your releasing this as
freeware to begin with.(which was and is Phenomenal itself in this day
and age).

tnx es 73's OM, de John Jewkes W6HNC / AAR0MI OREGON Army MARS Station

PS: If this sounds a might bit urgent of a request, it is so to speak.
We are having an Emergency Operations Exercise about 8 Hours from
Now.(1500 Z)
We will be working with ARES,Local Authorities, National Traffic system,
FEMA, and the Cruz de Rojas (Red Cross) folks to determine how quickly
the
various groups, hams, and agencies could meld together in such a short-
term/little notice emergency. Part of the drill involves Earthquakes and
Power grid failures related to Y2K, and the other to a massive influx of
Injured Soldiers from an asian theatre of conflict, to local hospitals
after a border
skirmish. It shall keep me quite busy, as well as the rest of the
"staff". I
have made plans to use the software as an adjunct to emergency digital
modes, such as Pactor, Rtty, Gtor, and even Clover. In a real Emergency,
I would, as would any Ham, use ALL methods available to me to get the
message through.
Because this is simply an exercise, I would ask for your kind permission
to
utilize this software. Should you reply in the negative, or not reply
prior to the exercise's commencement, I will scrub that portion of the
exercise. I
will not harbor ill will for you, as likely it is simply a
mis-understanding of what MARS is, and what it does.

Please reply as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
John Jewkes, W6HNC

PPS: Sorry about the length of the PS above. I do get a bit passionate
about
serving others. If you have ever passed a message to concerned parents
about their son/daughter, or a birth announcement to a recipient, you
will know why I am. Ooops... going long again.

de John.

HAVE NOT MADE SUCH A DONATION, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU AND THE OTHERS USING HIS

Our club (well, really, just me!) plans to try PSK around the normal PSK
frequencies, mainly in the evening hours when things will quiet down a bit, and
it will be easier to see the computer screen, too. Our club call is W5ZDN out
of Waco, Texas.

Hope to hear many others, too!

Reggie,

How you set up the program is critical to how you tune in signals. In the
spectrum tab of setup you need to choose a spectrum start that is near your
center freq of choice. For instance if you use 1000 cycles as your center
freq. choose 750 for the spectrum start. Then be sure 2x zoom is selected
and select show average. This will give you a well centered display on the
spectrum scope and make it easier to tune a station. The blue line will give
you an average of the incoming signal and you can tune the arrow into the
middle of that.

Two other things that make tuning easier. First in spite of the manual
instructions uncheck NET and check AFC right away. Next if you don't see the
little arrow along the top of the scope put your mouse cursor into the
scope. It should turn into a dotted line. Put the dotted line near the left
to right center of the scope and right click. This will put the arrow at the
top of the scope. Check the freq box to make sure it says the center freq.
you have chosen. If not you can use the alt and right and left arrow keys to
adjust it.

I find once the scope is set up is this manor, it works very well even for
very weak signals.

Hi Marcus & Gang:

The following list is a raw, unconfirmed (but true) assembly of DXCC
countries in PSK31 mode since late January I have worked. Any details of a
certain contact of course can be obtained, as far as my log or memory
access allow.

UT5RP told me yesterday on FeldHell on 15 meter that he have 87 worked
countries on PSK31! I reached 45 this weekend, so there's a target hi hi ...
May be he can provide the worked countries list.

Added to mine this last 7 days HB0/HK3/9H1/XE1/CT2/KG4, besides Tierra del
Fuego (IOTA SA008 - LU1XT - running 1 watt!). Leaving 20 meter band apart,
this weekend:

30m = none
17m = none
15m = 12 contacts
12m = 1 contact
10m = 3 contacts

My working conditions still the same: Isoloop like antenna, 50 watts, 14
floor buildings all around, living in a house.
