How do you keep the type ahead buffer from scrolling to the left right off
the screen? Also, shift-right click does not bring up bearings or log.?

thanks,

Reggie,

I have suggested to WA2VOS that the buffer scrolling to the left is real
hard to live with. I don't know if that will be fixed in the future. Shift
right click does nothing for me either. If you left click on the globe you
will get a worked summary. The bearing comes up automatically and is
displayed on the globe when you enter a call sign in the QSO input area.

Hi to all,

Following text, I find it strongly recommandable, is worth reading,
as much as the software is worth trying...
Besides, for paragon 585 users (just like me),
			it is just a gem...

Good luck,

Logger Ver. 6.07 is now released and available at
http://www.itis.net/golist on the download page. Thanks to all Beta
testers and all who made valuable suggestions on how to improve the
program. All known bugs are fixed, and there are many small
changes/enhancements (most of which you will probably never even
notice).

If you download and install the newer version, please read the Help
section for 'Changes in this Version' to find out the major changes that
may impact you (and your individual configuration). Many of the smaller
changes/enhancements are not mentioned in 'Changes in this Version', but
are detailed in the relevant Help sections.

As existing Logger users, you need to download the Logger Update file.
The file downloads as Loggerupd.zip, and unzips as Install.exe - When
running Install, ignore the usual warning message about the install
program not being licensed (I'll get around to that one of these days).

I hope you like it, have fun, 73

From our point of view, field day 99 was a bust for psk31. We
only got a dozen or less contacts, all on 20. On the other hand, we
hundreds of 20 phone and cw contacts; had a good antenna. It
wasn't from lack of trying, but after having been on of an hour at
a time and getting just a few contacts, we had o move on. Could
be that the skip wasn't into the regions of the country where PSK31
is active, but phone and cw were.

I, too, tried out PSK this past weekend during Field Day at our Club's
station, W5ZDN (2A NTX). I brought out my laptop and connected it to one
of our club's HF stations in the evening after things had calmed down a bit.

I thoroughly "wowed" everyone with the PSKGNR/PSK31SBW combination running
on a 486/66 color laptop. I made about a dozen PSK contacts on 20 meters,
right around 14.070 (as expected). It was challenging to "squeeze in"
between the CW and all the other digital modes, but PSK did a great job of
getting through. The DSP capabilities made it possible for the computer to
almost totally ignore the adjacent signals!

PSKGNR was terrific for a contest like FD, where one has two typical
strings to send: the "CQ FD" and the QTH and station info. Nevertheless, I
enjoyed the opportunity to slip in a nice friendly remark or two to make
the QSO a little bit personal, rather than strictly business. (Oops...now
you know I'm not a true contester at heart! ;-)

I checked around the other bands, and even tried a CQ or two, but heard
nothing, even though the band conditions seemed great all weekend. It
seems that 20 meters is becoming the de facto location for PSK.

Maybe we need a weekend 30-meter or 40-meter PSK contest, or something like
that, to prime the pump... These bands are wide open for PSK, but not being
used.

Subject: [psk31] PSK31 for Field Day, Using PSK31 for emergency communication

Last weekend during Field Day (as KG8SM, 3A, OH) I contacted all of ten (10)
different operators using PSK31--and 9 of the 10 were near 14.070 MHz. I
listened for PSK31 on all the bands, and heard no others, even though, say,
40 meters, was open all day and all night. I was looking forward to lots of
stateside QSOs on 40m PSK31, but none were to be had. To make contacts, I
switched to CW and there was an endless supply of stations. Did anyone have
better luck than I had using PSK31 on Field Day? Is it the dearth of
laptops that thinned out the ranks on Field Day, or was it because other
modes were better for racking up Q's?

Which brings me to the viability of PSK31 as a mode to support emergency
communications...with laptop PCs affordable (used especially), what niche do
you think PSK31 has for emergency use? It's as efficient as CW, and the
persistence of text on screen makes it easier to copy information in the
midst of chaos than CW, I think...then again, good old SSB is fast, works
well, even though it uses RF less effectively than the narrowband digi
modes. And then there're the TORs, are they more suited for emergency comms
than PSK31 perhaps?

Thanks for your thoughts. 73 de Bill, KB8USZ kb8usz@arrl.net

Peter, I thoroughly enjoy your very lucid explanations.

I sure hope someone is archiving these excellent articles for posting to
their PSK web pages (with Peter's permission, I should think).

Subject: [psk31] OT:other programs WITH psk31 running?

Hi Everyone,

Having a windoze program that does PSK is a great help and opens so many
doors as far as 'helper aps' that wouldn't be available if the super
computer was dumbed down and locked into DOS. Sure wish the 3 major contest
software authors would make a windoze version::>

Anyway, I'm interested in voice recognition software that could provide
command input to otehr aps (such as psk31 and meteor scatter aps). Several
years ago, I had a fairly good voice recognition demo, but it was $299 US
dollars, so I couldn't use it (afford it). It was 'trainable' to the
operators voice and could accept custom words and output any character in
response to a particular word. Control functions to other programs were
also custom programmable too. Voice recognition in the general mode was
about 97 percent error free, but once trained to the operators voice table,
recognition was near 100 percent. For custom commands in the operators
voice, it was 100 percent accurate.

Anyway, I did a web search for software and didn't find anything as of a
few minutes ago. If anyone has any suggestions along these lines (must be
reasonabley poriced or nearly free), please pass the word to me off list.

All comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Art

Worked CT and EA9 (Ceuta). Only heard 6Y (Jamaica)... besides XE ! Woke up
too late on Sunday "siesta" (7:00PM hi) and missed them ...

Somebody asked abt 6 meter op frequency some days ago. Any conclusion?

I use the IN3 voice recognition tool, 97% class, may be $50,00 as 1995
prices. Still there at http://www.commandcorp.com/incube_welcome.html . I've
been playing with this routine to command PSK31EVM, Kachina 505 control
software, Logging programs et all ...

Too much info to remember which word I use for certain functions =:o) ..

Note that if this software is running, sound card is dead. This is possible
here 'cause I run PSK31 on a Motorola DSP development kit.

PS: PSK31EVM is the same PSK31SBW (by G3PLX both) and IN3 is able to write
things on TX Window, send station data, files, whatever keystroke groups you
create, up to 64 keys.

Subject: [psk31] Portuguese help

Hi ...

For any possible Brazilian reader that knows somebody here (PY land) that
need this, there is an HTML version of PSK31SBW help file, translated to
Portuguese. It's placed at:

http://www.unetsul.com.br/py2pll/psk31.htm

Just access the page, and [save as]. Need to select each picture on this
page and agn [save as] somewhere at the disk. Later can be accessed using
any Internet browser.

It's a literal translation of PSK31SBW English help source code that Peter
(G3PLX) sent me some time ago. Now preparing to compile to Windows .hlp
file. Thanks Peter.

BTW, there's the 1.06 version too
(http://www.unetsul.com.br/py2pll/p31sbw106.zip). In some days a dedicated
section to PSK31/FeldHell and other recent modes. In Portuguese :o) for a
while.
